As they say...'You couldn't write this stuff'
At this point in time, yes, it's quite possible.

But the most significant thing out of all this, is that Lai is taking the bull by the horns. To preserve his investment, he now knows it was a big mistake to appoint an inexperienced chairman and CEO, and has turned to a more established football person to help him out, in other words, another Mark Jenkins. Now, I know Jenkins wasn't universally popular, but I don't think the club would be in its present position had he stayed. I don't know this Gourlay, but lets hope he can take a proper grip without causing alienation within the ranks, or we could go the way of Sunderland if we're not carefull.

I agree, I think that he was treated badly by Newcastle and acted in a dignified manner. Whether he does well, if appointed, for West Brom remains to be seen. What we must do though, is to give him every chance to succeed.

You are spot on, whoever gets the job needs the backing of the fans from the off, sadly if it is Bruce then I fear with our lot he will get a couple of home games before things get bad…

Now the clueless, arrogant, out of his depth clown Ismail has gone I can now return to football, his non footballing way really made me hate the game.
If Steve Bruce gets appointed he will have my full support, he has a good record of getting teams promoted,
    Up the Baggies

I keep hearing this Bruce's style of football is this and that. Can someone please tell me what his style of football is supposed to be. I don't see him as a Pulis or a Valerian so what is his style? I would imagine its simply defend when you have to and attack when you get the opportunity. Surely that is all that football is.

Good post Bomber and 100% agree! Had Val continued I would have been long gone. As it is - I am now going to Sheffield!

I like Newcastle but what has Howe achieved more than Bruce? With lots of money spent and money still being spent - are Newcastle climbing up the table? No!!!

Bruce will be a good short term appointment and at LEAST the players will want to play for him!

F uck off Val as towards the end you turned me off the team I love!

It's interesting that from reading the posts on here, more appear to be in favour of Bruce than those against. I could be wrong of course but that's how it appears to me.

What is obvious is how many fans thought that the football under Ismael was complete and utter dross and that he had to go. My take on it is that Bruce will assess the strengths and weaknesses of the players and play a style of football accordingly. If he does that then there can be no complaints.

I also supported Val to start off with and thought our main problem was Lai. And maybe it is still Lai. But over the past 3-4 months our performances and results have been dire. Our style of play has been Sunday morning “kick and rush” tactics and fact is teams have seen through us. It started at Stoke and spiralled after that. But Val couldn’t see it ... or was so stubborn he didn’t want to see it. Falling out publicly with senior pros, never changing his tactics, not listening to valid criticism from the fans. It’s now very clear he was the wrong choice for the Albion at the outset .... and this was compounded by the clowns in charge paying £2m to buy him out followed by a 4 year contract. Absolute stupidity.

Bruce always comes across as a decent bloke on TV. Thought he handled his exit from Newcastle well. Many of his problems at Newcastle where in dealing with Ashley. I actually feel quietly confident he will quickly get to grips with the mess we are in and sort us out. The players must be breathing a huge sigh of relief .... although Mowatt and Dike might not. We haven’t got the greatest squad ... but they are capable of doing better in a poor Championship. Don’t think we will make the automatics but the ply-offs is surely possible.

It’s also good news we have hit shot of Ken and Li Piyue .... having a football man in Gourlay as CEO must be a good move. We just need someone to replace Ashworth now on transfers ...

Boingy, the only way WBA fc will RIP is if we all started "supporting" them like you do by only posting on this forum and scratching around for an illegal stream to watch a game.

Unfair comment is that BB in my opinion.

I guess the same comment could be made about me, my stint only lasted 45 years from 1972 until 2017 and the early return from holidays and rushing back from business meetings so as not to miss a match.

There's very many reasons why people of any age ( Boingy is into his 60's like myself ) stop going to games, health, lack of funds, geographical etc.

I referer to myself as a "fan" these days, the word "supporter" is for the likes 0f yourself who hand over your cash and do the very hard yards travelling both home and away, I respect those who make this effort, the same effort and more that I made for 45 years but I don't think it's fair to knock the "fan" element, they're still deserving of making comment.

Just to give some context to my own lack of regular acceptance since Pardew took over, I've been asking myself quite a lot in recent times why I find it so hard to attend games and to watch us live on TV mate, it's actual taken a professional heath type to explain this to me.

Very complex stuff, I've struggled to understand myself at times in recent years and it can be things like this that affect people's decisions as it has with mine.

Hope you're keeping well BB and I'm really hoping Brucey can entice me back on a regular basis, I have a 4 1/2 year old grandson who I need to introduce the club to next season!
