Picking these teams, it's clear we don't have enough different kind of options in Midfield....me choosing JOB (who's still out anyway as far as we know) is proof of that
I don't think our fans have realised that Palmer is only promotion-level as a holding midfielder. I don't think he's suited to any other role further forward (unless on the right in a straight 4-3-3). So do we need 2 holding midfielders? Not for a home game against Barnet with either 4 or 5 defenders behind them and our forwards out of form - it's too much cover and too cautious IMO. For other games, with attacking full-backs, it's maybe OK. But I think the squad needs another midfield option.
As for a straight 4-3-3 for Barnet at home
..........................Jaros
Richardson Rawlinson Cameron Taylor
..........Palmer....Francis...Vincent
..........Roberts...Wootton...Sam
Just what I was thinking. Even though Wootton and Rodrigues were poor against Grimsby, I can't see that they need "a rest". To my surprise Eli Sam has done enough lately to merit serious consideration, but I'm struggling to see why Kairo Mitchell deserves a starting place. We seem fixed on playing a back three and wing backs, so I think the three in midfield are our big problem more than the front two. The failure to compete in midfield was our biggest failing against Grimsby.
We ended the game on Saturday with a 4-3-3 and look where that got us.
I would much rather go with 4-4-2 and actually play Cal in his best position on the right wing, cut in on his left with Richardson overlapping.
If we had a genuine target man I’d be much happier with a 4-3-3 but Wootton really isn’t it. You can count on one hand how many headers he wins in a game.
Barnet offers an opportunity to get back to firing on all 4 cylinders. The last thing we need to do is rest people for a game where they could definitely find their mojo again!
No doubt Jaros will start but have to say he could've done better for the first goal against Grimsby and whilst his command of the box was good his overall distribution at times was a bit iffy. Hope to se him improve on that.
I'd also probably drop Taylor for this one, he looked absolutely shot a good 15 mins before he was subbed on Sat.
Think he will start Brunt again but needs to play him higher than he did against Grimsby as we actually started with a 3-4-2-1 rather than a 3-5-2.
Lacey looked out of sorts as well so maybe put Rawlo in for a game if he's fit, I'm not convinced Lacey was fully fit when we put him back in.
Jaros
Brindley, Rawlo, Cameron
Richardson, Roberts, Palmer, Brunt, Chicksen
Wootton, Rodrigues
If he went to 4 at the back I'd mix it up a bit and go rogue with 4-3-3/4-1-2-3
Jaros
Richardson, Rawlo, Cameron, Chicksen
Brunt, Palmer, Vincent
Roberts, Wootton, Sam
