This is exactly why I wouldn't give him an extension. We need players who are good enough all the time. Not players who are only good enough because they have better players beside them.

Kenneth had this for years with Webster. As did Robson with Reynolds.

If Harkes was going to sign an extension, I think he'd have done it by now.

I’m probably sitting on the fence on this debate…..I’d like to keep Harkes, but as a backup midfielder. He’s fine but not quite the standard we need to take us to the next level. He’s a good squad player but not sure I’m wanting him starting most weeks

Honestly (and I'm sure the feeling is mutual in reverse) but I find it mind boggling that folk don't rate Harkes.

I get that. He is a good athlete and footballer. But really he hides at times he isn't a leader - fair enough but that's made sure he really has played 25% of games for us the rest were guff and is the key reason our midfield and goal scoring is rubbish. He shouldn't be relying on decent players beside him (as he certainly hasn't had that) - I like him a lot at times most of the time I wonder what he is actually doing. So for me - no contract. Harsh yes as his attitude is good but he is a luxury player and we can't afford that.

I have no problem with him at all. Just think his time here has run he has been average overall. Brilliant at times but he isn't Billy Kirkwood lets be honest.

I dont think im that for away from this thinking, but with not keeping him as a back up.

To me, he has proved to be capable of playing well in flashes, even a wee run that won a PotM award, but since then he has not been consistent enough, especially when he should be showing up when the going gets tough where he can be accused of going into hiding!

Like others have said, we have a keeper and defence to rely on with back up, but we need to be looking for players in midfield that dont need someone else to make them better, and Harkes is not that player!

Yep, and many like me think the opposite! Too inconsistent and missing in many games. Running about for 90mins is not being effective!
