You can’t just go around hitting people though and if Smith was white this would’ve brought condemnation and outrage.

It would’ve been labelled as “White privilege” whereas in truth, in this case it’s just privilege due to Smith’s status as an actor.

If he’d been a pretty much unknown actor winning the Oscar I doubt he’d have felt entitled to throw his weight around.

I’ll bet a white actor would’ve been accused of having a “thin skin” if he’d reacted like this.

How classy it would’ve been if Smith’s wife had taken the joke and Smith then come up on stage and absolutely rip the p I s s out of Rock.

I’m conflicted on this one from many angles if I’m honest.

I’m now sort of hoping that a really tall presenter is put in place next year, such as Richard Osman and he then insults 2023 Oscar winner Danny De Vito’s wife!

I’ve always thought and said this, if you always see incidents (whatever they may be) as a white issue or black issue and always think of it that way, then there’s something f’d up with your thinking and it’s kind of worrying. To simply put, whatever your race.. if you always have that mindset of ‘them’ vs ‘us’ (replace either of those with white race or non-white race) then a problem lays with you. Because you’ll only condone one side.

How on earth has the incident that happened last night, anything to do with ‘if that was a white person you’d not hear the end of it’? Opening up a debate that’s not relative to what went on. It’s almost like saying Russia lashing out at Ukraine and saying, if that was a white nation invaded a non-white nations - i’m baffled by this thinking.

I think Will Smith could easily have handled to it better with words, to put Rock in his place - he’d probably would have got cancelled as an aftermath.

Many time on here people have mentioned close ones suffering from illnesses, be it cancer or depression - if someone took the mick right in front of you - yeah i’m sure you’d politely tell them? yeah right. I’ve lost a lot respect for Rock and although don’t condone what Smith did, him and his family could well be in a bad place. Forget about their riches.

I did read your post Al' but we fundamentally disagree on this. A white guy didn't punch him. Neither did a black guy from what I saw. An understandably enraged black guy slapped him and called him out for being an insensitive pr ick. Good on Will Smith. Uproar near us as in a school they are giving lessons to 12 year olds with the message it’s ok to be an it or a they! Fkin mental as yes perhaps at 16 but 12 and is there any wonder why parents are demanding their kids sit out these lessons!

Back to the issue of the post started by Mick and his point was there would have been an uproar if a white guy would have walloped him - he’s right. My main point though is if somebody shouts an obscenity to one of our players about their wife - can they walk over and give them a smack?

You are right about words - Smith could have destroyed him that way! Nobody condones violence and to be honest many are sick of celebs not being role stars. OK for Grealish to abuse Covid rules and could have killed someone like Lee Hughes but then you hear Starmer wanting Boris out ( for a month ) due to a cheese and wine party!
