Positives, after matchday 1, we would have pounced on this scenario of being in 4th fighting against RossCo and Well for a European spot. Equally 1 loss in 10 leading up to split is excellent.
Negatives, not putting games to bed, a naïve coach not making enough tactical substitutions, playing McNulty every week.

Hopefully Tam learns and Tony gets busy in summer, until then we go with what we have and I would say 2 wins might be enough.

I would say just consolidating in the top flight after sh1t show of championship years is progress. But that will be reversed very quick if we don't improve the squad and lack of pace, and in particular that front line which is amongst the worst I've seen at Utd in 30+ years, terrible in front of goal, zero pace, zero physical presence, can't defend from the front, woeful.

Think we need to look at achieving top 6 in the context of our club situation. We have trimmed the squad significantly. Financially and numerically. Courts was a budget choice as manager too. Our bench is testament to our relative lack of depth - promising players perhaps but not much strength in depth.

Losing Jeando's energy in January is an under recognised issue for us. Missing Butch and Harkes today was a big loss. Agree we obviously need to improve, agree we need to bolster up front, agree pace is a huge issue for us but in the context of what we have had to do to try to balance the club somewhat, I think it is a huge achievement making top 6.

Would love us to play with some freedom now the pressure is off. Europe is one hell of a carrot to play for that I didn't think was possible before the season kicked off.

I would suggest the players and management team deserve a lot of credit for making top 6 this year. So tight a league it would have been easy to miss out.

Europe sure is, last season if a team qualified for the groups stages of the Europa Conference League (3 home games & 3 away) they received £3m from UEFA. Maybe this poor man’s competition is seen as a distraction to the bigger clubs, but to clubs of United’s size that is good money.

    Overall , thinking about this…

Happy with a top 6 for United. Definite progress.
Football has not been great most of the time.
    Squad a fair bit unbalanced.

    But,

Pushing on for a shot at Europe. Excellent, well done.

Well done to all connected with United.

Being an Arab of a certain age I am guilty of comparing our team with the teams of the seventies and eighties and I know that is unfair and unrealistic. That said, we should continue to aim for stylish football and a winning mentality. We can't turn the clock back but we can build another team that is capable of adding to our proud history.

    United in the blood.
