The Holiday Inn Express Hotel at Manvers, Wath-on-Dearne, had expected to be getting
back to normal, after the Afghan refugees who arrived, after the Taliban takeover last
year, were moved to permanent accommodation across the country.
But the home office has now decided to use the Holiday inn Express, for a further six
months for up to 130 asylum seekers, most of whom have been at the Ibis Hotel, at
Bramley, Rotherham since December 2021.
Wentworth & Dearne MP John Healey, said the asylum seekers had been made welcome
in the Rotherham area by residents, adding that there are 472 refugees in special asylum
accommodation in Rotherham, with a further 161 in initial accommodation , the majority
hotel based.
John Healey MP said, " Rotherham want to play their part, we we want the system to work
fairly. It isn't, when 9 out of 21 local authorities aren't willing to play any part in the
national asylum system. "
The home office are expected to begin moving the guests [asylum seekers] from Bramley
to Manvers this week, with other arrivals from outside Rotherham in May.
John Healey MP called for the Manvers plans to be halted for a month for consultation
and called on home secretary Priti Patel to require all local authorities to do their bit.
It would seem stupid moving asylums seekers such a short distance, after the Holiday Inn
Express hotel is now back to normal, with having probably having a make over, after the
asylum seekers left the hotel.
So what happens with the Ibis hotel at Bramley, does that probably get a make over ready
for the next batch of asylum seekers.
Why are other authorities reluctant to take the asylum seekers, the government should act
on this, in stopping funding to the authorities not willing to accept asylum seekers.
The local supermarket Aldi at the side of the Holiday Inn Express hotel at Manvers, will
probably be not very happy, after other asylum seekers were often caught shoplifting in
the store. Staff told me the kids were being sent in the store to shoplift, when caught
nothing done, a waste of time.
