Been there just the once, FA Cup 7th Dec 1963. All round a not good experience. Delusions of success under Eddie Howe resulted in relegation, match was a 1-1 draw (our prolifiic centre forward Terry Bly getting a goal) and we lost the replay. My motorbike ground to a halt near what is now Winner City (ah ah) on the A614. Typical of 3 pronged spark plugs on a two strokes. It was cold, I think a bit wet but I got it fixed in time to get home for what I think was the first live appearance of The Beatles on TOTP.

Brilliant That was probably one of the least appropriately named grounds in football!

    Eddie Lowe.
Would that it were Eddie Howe,or someone of that ilk.
Was the least appropriately named forward 'Doc' Pace also in the line-up ?

"It's The Beatles" BBC tv special, the last few minutes still exist and has been posted to youtube. For those familiar with Beatles footage it's the one where the giant "With The Beatles" album cover is slowly lowered from the ceiling towards Ringo's head.

I went there in 1989 when it was two sides open only. They had little choice but to move, Oxford too, but like so many others who've changed location, it gave them a fresh impetus that Notts re-building ML didn't, quite the opposite in fact, tragically. There was serious talk of us relocating as opposed to re-building for a time, but it was mostly a ground share proposal push which would have been an even bigger disaster.

    Maybe a predictive post

I remember there was some excitement about getting a cultured top league international as player/manager the time. Early lessons in managing expectations.

Did you mean in-appropriately named? He was the following season I think.

The only thing I remember from a dismal 1-0 defeat in the FA Cup in the late 80s was the huge fence at the front of the away end at Belle Vue. Made viewing almost impossible, which may have been a blessing in disguise that day, but it was about six months after Hillsborough and an affront to football fans everywhere.

Well if the owners were prepared to splash the cash we might get to the top flight again, how do you think Pavis got us there in 91 ?

Notts we’re simply ruthless that day
    Our Tommy was on fire
I lived in littlehampton and used to travel every weekend to watch Notts on a Saturday and devoted to my Sunday football the following day
The journey to Wembley that day was a sea on blue and little old me with my county flags getting no end of stick with some complimentary finger signs along the way,
Great support that day, great celebrations and what a frickin journey home down south
Will forever live in my memory
    Thankyou Notts county
If only we could get back near that I would die a happy man
Great day, as a 9 year old it was amazing. Tommy Johnson was some player at Notts.

By splashing the cash and taking a gamble of a young Neil Warnock. Albeit in a different time when the difference between rich and poor wasn't as huggggggeeeeee as it is now.
