Its been revealed that the English Football League plans to ask its members to vote at their summer conference on Friday on relaxing restrictions on what strip they can wear during home matches.

The proposed rule change would allow them to don a change strip if colour blind players or spectators were unable to distinguish between their home kit and any of their opponents’ kits.

Under current EFL regulations, clubs must wear their home kit during every home match with the exception of one per season in which they are allowed to don an alternative strip.
As someone who is colour blind can I point out it is not a 'tiny tiny minority' it is about 8% of males.

Having said that I've watched and played in 100's of football matches and never had a problem distinguishing who is an opponent. Some of my team mates might disagree.

    It is nonsense.

An old friend of mine was colour blind, he was an amateur racing driver and couldn’t distinguish the colours of the flags that marshals waved! He never had a problem with it though, won many races.

Can't it be a simple matter of wearing filter glasses or filter contact lenses?

English Football League have Voted to Relax Kit Rules to Help Colour Blind Fans. Teams in the English Football League have voted to relax their kit rules to help colour blind fans both in stadiums and watching on television better distinguish between sides.

The EFL — which includes clubs at all levels of the English professional football pyramid except the Premier League — approved the proposal on Friday at their annual general meeting. Starting in the 2022-23 season, clubs will be allowed to wear their away or third kit at home in order to avoid a scenario where colour blind people would find it difficult to differentiate between the teams.

ALSO it as been decided that next season will see the naming of SEVEN substitutes in which a team can field FIVE, that's up 3 from last season.

The new substitutes policy is ludicrous, to be able to change half the team during a match is plain silly. The managers should pick their best team for the match and stick to it, with three subs a maximum. Another move for the worse for football.

It’s going to be like tag wrestling soon.

I think I’ll totally give up when they start allowing “rush back” goalies.

How is it going to work? From my understanding, correct me if I'm wrong, different individuals have difficulties distinguishing between certain colours so by definition most colour clashes will affect somebody. How will clubs know what colours an individual fan cannot distinguish between? Will they have to inform the club prior to the game? To a degree I understand a player having problems but fans? I just don't understand how it will work. It's utter nonsense to me.

So what if a season ticket holder complains to the club that he can’t distinguish navy blue and white stripes from other colours? Would the club be expected to never wear navy blue and white stripes again? Idiocy reaches new levels.

Many sports are now afflicted by being run by fools, terrified of offending some obscure minority. To be a member of a sports governing body one clearly requires a degree in stupidity (football and cricket are prime examples).
