    If I am a company with £100 million of debt but turnover is £50 million I can probably still afford higher wages than a company with £10 million debt and only £5 million in turnover.

    Someone who understands finance will be able to tell me how that doesn't make sense but that is how it works in my head.

    And isn't growth one way to reduce debt? Speculating to accumulate whilst risking adding further debt. Some are happier to do that than others.
