There were a few samples 😉. Obviously the days of alcohol shirt sponsorship are long gone. I'd imagine betting isn't now too far behind.

Sponsorship just spoils football shirts imo. They should abolish it right across the board. Dump squad numbers anorl and bring back numbers 1 to 11. Release a new shirt every 2 years instead of every season.

Who is in charge of attracting potential sponsers at Oakwell ?

Khaled Ahmad and his commercial team could well be bringing a new radical approach to the meaning of shirt sponsorship.

Don't get me wrong I think it's great that Weston Park and Barnsley Hospice will benefit when the match-worn shirts are auctioned off and it would be a wonderful gesture if Parekh uses some of his millions to subsidise the supporting of the community each game by the club sponsoring a new cause and selling the shirts after each game to raise money for that cause. What a statement of community involvement that would be with Barnsley FC setting the trend world wide. The more I think about it, the more I am warming to the idea.

But somebody may like to whisper in Khaled's ear that the idea of sponsoring shirts at other clubs is that an organisation pays the club to put their name/ logo on the club's shirt and that raises income for the club.
It does signal possible incompetence that a shirt sponsor has not been found before the season has started.
