Computers are all very well, but I can’t see them ever catching on.

Computers are crap, i base it on a wider use of computers. Footymad being an example. If you divide what it does into the problems it produces, and then divide that again into the user not knowing how to solve a problem, but should, it becomes much bigger.

If you then re divide into that the lack of training, indeed there is none, its all a bit mad.

You are expected to know. And when by IT, the contempt is palpable. I dont understand how computers work, save for it being yes or no so to speak, unless you know the right pathway, or input, it all goes to hell.

Having said that, computers do do things we would not otherwise. Like email instead of letters, mobiles etc.

But, when having gone through a storm, the nose is going down, and its not going to come up, what do you say too a child that grips your arm and cries mummy....or daddy....

Computers in a life or death situation is a serious gamble. What blinds us is the convienience. Watch aircrash investigation, its an eye opener. The next time you fly, there will be something wrong with the plane. Modern planes are incredibly complex, as as you know the law that states that the more moving parts there are.... Something being wrong with the plane is NOT an exceptional circumstance.

What about computers becoming so advanced they become able to overide anything instructions that th the operator tells it to do,the more information that is fed into its system the more that it begins to think for itself,it's classic sci-fi stuff of course but surely a possibility in a few hundred years time, look how far that we have progressed over the past 50 years,

Computers are metal and plastic chalky, thats all. Just to frighten whoever more, near misses, like mine go unreported, there are serious problems that pass under the radar, no pun intended. And are legion, or numerous.

Without the technology computers bring in todays age, if they failed it would be a Firesale. Financial institutions would crash, cash would be unusable as no access to it as would infrastructure such as Utilities, Communications, Travel, Air, Train even down to traffic lights for road , Food / Pharnacutecal Manufacturing & we would be threw back into the Stone Age.. the list is endless…

I am lucky in one respect as 35 years ago I got a desktop PC and there was no Microsoft Office in them days, it was more of a fancy typewriter and basic spreadsheets and over the years have become somewhat of a whiz on one and rely so much on it nowadays if it broke I could not do my job properly as yes could use my work I phone for a few things but not the same…

Was sat in the dog as usual the other night and one of my mates came in thankful I was in as his Samsung Android phone was showing emergency calls only and he was leaving for a 10 day trip up Scotland but would not have gone without his phone for emergency contact from his aging parents.. pressed 2 buttons & 90 seconds later it was fixed (didn’t buy me a pint though the tight fisted Scottish git… must have grew up with Chalky when I sorted his tablet out..

Yes we have all seen Terminator / I Robot type films and I sit firmly on the fence around artificial intelligence if I am honest like self driving cars as an example.. even cars today can look for a parking space, judge if the car will fit & with a push of a button park itself whilst yo sit there doing nothing.. remember watching Top Gear once when they tried it out new to the market - it crashed…Father in law has it in his Toyota & did it once when I was in it & perfect…

With what’s going on in the world at the moment, d1ck head leadership in Russia & China sabre rattling Taiwan, hidden weapons satellites no one will admit to & defence systems as they are… if the computer decides to say no… end of the world as if nuke is fired, auto defence will engage a response…

Yes the computer that we own is singular piece of metal and plastic but the information on the internet is out there somewhere, stored up and waiting for the right time for the b.astards to strike ,the computer in your mobile is vastly superior to the massive computers that company's used just a decade back,Terminater may be fiction right now but who knows in 50 years time
