Posters use smiley faces at the end of their posts for two main purposes:

1. In a thinly disguised attempt to pretend that they are not being grossly insulting. As in "Moderator you are an absolute prick for threatening to ban me just because I keep calling you a prick"

2. To make clear that a comment is meant to be witty, especially when it's not

So can we have a month's trial to allow posts to stand or fall by their content rather than with the use of some fuc king daft icon?

Forgot to say that smileys often follow such comments as:
"Just saying.."
"I was just asking the question"

But do not appear after such comments as:
"But what do I know?"
"Seen nothing to change my mind"
