If I had a spare month's holiday, though, I'd opt for the Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand next summer.
Like most folk who have commented so far I have little excitement for this World Cup. I suspect once it gets underway my enthusiasm will ignite especially if the football proves to be of a better quality than I anticipate or one of the unfancied nations brings the event to life with some daring displays. For me, aged 9, the World Cup of 1970 was superb. Carlos Alberto’s goal and Brazil’s 4th in the final sent my salted peanuts and dandelion and burdock everywhere as my joy knew no bounds.

I suppose the adverts will contain some poor person being flogged or having his hand chopped off.

It says it all when I am looking forward to watching Australia get a flogging there than I am watching England. Pun intended. I'll be interested to see if there any gay rights activists doing demonstrations and how it is dealt with / what happens perhaps only out of a sense of satisfaction of seeing Qatar or FIFA look stupid. Anything that embarrasses the host nation is no bad thing as far as I am concerned. And I won't be purchasing products from any of the sponsors.

Being English and a person that likes football I do give a toss but confess I would much sooner watch Notts win promotion than England win a World Cup. Which I don't think they will. England that is.

This is being held at the wrong time and in the wrong place. Apart from that, everything is hunky dory.
I think there is a fair chance that things will go catastrophically wrong off the pitch rather than on it. That corrupt organisation known as FIFA made a terrible decision in 2010 to award the 2018 and 2022 competitions to two contentious nations.
If it reaches the final then a Brazil v France (or Germany) outcome looks likely with England exiting, as Shearer has said, at the Quarter Final stage.

Swop Blatter agrees with you and was one who voted elsewhere. Platini was the main reason that Qatar got the gig as his influence over other voters was huge. I honestly don’t think money had anything to do with - BULL SH1T

Had to go to Asda this morning - a few cheap England t-shirts just inside the door.

Sums it up for me I think .... how have we got to a place where far more seem to be talking about an MP in a jungle than the world's biggest football tournament?

I will watch the England games (and probably Wales) - won't bother with any others.

Ivan Toney made a mug of Gareth Southgate today with two goals away at Manchester City.

Maybe there were other reasons he wasn't selected:
