Yes but if unemployed people still get benefit and there are other benefits available why do we have food banks these days? Has the real value of benefits fallen so that people don’t have enough to buy their food?

Obviously energy prices have gone up significantly this year so that will be affecting people also. I avoid the news to protect my mental health and haven't consumed any other than football related since the day of the Queen's funeral (19th September) so i'm probably not the best person to comment. There's clearly lots of contributing factors for the proliferation of food banks though and they aren't going away any time soon

There are positives though as foodbanks allow people to be generous and help others in their community (but ideally they wouldn't exist of course). I read an interesting study earlier this year that found people who give frequently to charity have a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, something to do with a close connection between the emotional heart and physical heart. There's more in the book 'Molecules of Emotion' by Candace Pert

the more generous people are, the less government worries about it.
Im not saying charity is bad or anything, just how disconnected they are

There's no doubt about that. I recently saw a woman interviewed who did and gave a lot to charity and when she was asked why she did it, she said it was because she was selfish!
She explained that giving to others made her feel great. It’s true and if you don’t believe it, then try it (however little)!
