Goalscorer? Close but it's got to be ML. As an all-round effective striker it's a very comfortable win for ML.

Both him and Dennis are very good finishers, but I'm sure it's Maca.
What I want to know is has he turned himself into one of those strikers who always gets chances regardless of the team he's playing for?
If he has, then he can't fail for the rest of his career.

I used to love watching Paul Barnes for this, chances just followed him around. He missed a lot for County but it was no surprise what he did at his other clubs after he left. Woots could go 3 games without a chance, Gary Lund 10!

Agree. It's not an easy one due to the different levels they've played at, but Macca has the potential to go a fair bit higher. In the first half yesterday a neutral might have been wondering what all the fuss was about. He can claim an assist for the own goal, but he missed a couple of half chances and wasn't hugely involved. The second half showed what he's really about, they just couldn't cope with his movement and he could have scored four or five. The header was a good example, facing centre backs 6" taller he still found that yard of space and buried it. Being in the right place at the right time is something that coaches work on, but much of it is instinct. To move up a level after a great season and actually improve your goal tally is some achievement.

Paul Barnes is an interesting one.

Warnock sold him because of injuries. Looking back that could have been his biggest mistake.

He was a very good finisher, with at the time great pace and skill. But we couldn’t keep him on the pitch.

I remember his goal away at Rotherham. Ran most of the length of the pitch with defenders hanging off him and slotted it low into the far corner.

Ironically, Warnock signed him for Bury for 10k more than he sold him for 9 years earlier.

His lads not a bad player either, Harvey.

A real 'what might have been' type of career.

I think he was a couple of years older than Tommy & Drapes and it must have been tough for him seeing them ascend while he was crocked and could never get started. If he had a start like them he could have played for bigger clubs at higher levels. Even so, he fetched 350,000+ transfers a couple of times including a club record.

My fond memory of him was his constant agitation to eke out chances, so active and hungry. My type of striker.

I just about remember Barnes Snr playing but more of a name to me than anything as I was so young and didn't play enough.

I had no idea Harvey was his son.
