In 1979 I went to the centenary game in Dartmouth Park. It was the closest to Coopers bonk as they could get.
Albion played in quarters not stripes.

What amazes me is that the time Albion were formed there were seven other clubs in West Bromwich alone, but Albion grew rapidly and outstripped them all within two years of formation.
This scenario must have been played out all over the country.
Stourbridge Town and Halesowen are both older than Albion and Wolves yet they have remained the same size for 150 years.
Others like Stafford Road and Wednesbury Old Athletic were the top clubs in their areas, but they both went into oblivion after the rise of Albion and Wolves.
Albion were a works team and Wolves a church team. What ingredients allowed both to grow so quickly?

Albion originated fro Salters works team, didn’t they? They were bound to spring ahead of the the rest, there was a weight of expectation there!

As for Wolves originally being a church team, well that makes sense, God wanted the people of Wolverhampton to suffer for evermore.
