Ostensibly the BBC line is that if you have a regular gig with us you cannot make any public comments about politics.

Yet Alan Sugar frequently attacks Labour and praises the Conservatives. Andrew Neil was concurrently editor of The Spectator whilst doing several politics programmes per week for the BBC.

Thus the actual rule at the BBC is that if you have a regular gig with us you can make public comments about politics if they are praising the Conservatives or criticising Labour. You are otherwise forbidden from publicly mentioning politics.

This was not a big story when Lineker wrote the comment. Then Braverman decided to stamp on it and it became big purely from that. The Tory media jumped on it and now there is little else in the news. Braverman and The Tory media made a blunder because the general public is largely on Lineker's side. Now the Lineker comments are in the public's mind and are recognised as being totally legitimate.

The increase in viewing figures for Match of the Day was borne of curiosity not preference for the format.

My father was a prisoner of war, in a camp in Scotland. He would be insulted to think there was any link between the British government and the Nazis, he would say that sunak etc are namby pamby softies.

Lineker should be fired its all childish nonsense.

I'm genuinely interested in the stories that lies in every day people's family history, can you imagine the life that your father has lead,I would have loved to have been given a insight to it by him?

Griffs mum is another, she transported planes in WW2 when it was unusual for them to even drive a car, what a woman,Griff also told me about his grandad(?) who also sounded like a great person,it must be in their genes
