None of them will ever beat Des Lynam.

I don’t know what all the fuss is about. Lineker is OK as a presenter but nothing special. He can be easily replaced as can many of the other pundits, some of whom can’t string more than two words together. How about Hal Robson Kanu, who is well spoken, intelligent and knows what he’s talking about.

Personally - Lineker isn't a news broadcaster so should be able to tweet whatever he likes, most people can see beyond the hysteria and demarcate between what he's paid to do & what he does when he's "out of the office". I'd hope the BBC hierarchy is calm and objective enough to reconsider their approach here.
The BBC is stuck between a rock and a hard place. The government is wholeheartedly responsible for the BBC. They've been looking to abolish licence fees for a long time and funding the public broadcasters through taxation. It'll almost certainly take place in 2027 when the Royal Charter expires no matter who is in charge, but they've been exploring for a long time cutting it short early. It's simply not worth the licence fee anymore and most European countries have changed the model.

But this would mean the respective government can cut BBC funding on a whim. Why would the government keep funding an institution that attacks them...or a better way of looking at it, why would they pay Lineker to have a pop at them? It's absolutely not in the BBC's interest to be anything other than impartial and get in a mess.

I used to think he was brilliant.
Dan Walker got mowed down by a car whilst riding his bike a couple of weeks ago. His face currently looks like a butchers slab.

It'll be either be Mark Chapman or Gabby Logan won't it.

About 25 years ago Chapman was one of Chris Moyles' sidekicks on the Radio 1 breakfast show along with "comedy Dave". Not sure what happened to the latter.

    Scratch all that above....

Apparently MOTD is going to be shown with no presenter or guests....and some of the games will have no commentary either.

Good grief Lineker must have sucked them all off really well.....and swallowed the lot

How much of this issue is being caused because the Chairman of the BBC is a Tory donor who just happened to help Boris out before he got the job and is big mates with Sunak and is trying to silence his staff for criticizing his mates.

Tbh, I can understand why other presenters are supporting Lineker. These people aren't professional political commentators paid by the BBC with a clause to keep their personal political opinions to themselves but football commentators. Regardless of whether you agree with Lineker or not, surely he should have the right to express his views as an individual? Censorship from the Right is no better than censorship from the Left.

Only thing that sticks in my craw is how much money he gets paid by the BBC which is effectively coming from everyone who pays their licence fees. The BBC has made-and continues to make-some very good television and whilst it has had criticisms over it, I still believe that, over-all, it strives for impartiality in its news reporting. What annoys me is the salaries it pays for some of its bigger "stars". I get that it is in competition with independent tv and market forces etc, but some of these seem obscene-particularly as it is the licence fee that funds it.

I hear that players will be avoiding giving interviews in solidarity too.

Tbh I hate that we have to pay a licence fee especially to the BBC, who is heavily influenced by the scummy tories. They cry impartiality yet forget that they had Andre Neil running political programmes while writing for the right wing spectator magazine - what do people make of that? silence on this board, yeah just skip this post by me.

This isn’t just about lineker though is it, that Fiona Bruce - are we saying she is impartial?

Jeez - the tories have been in power 13 odd years and in this time we’ve (mostly tory poster on this board) moaned, complained and whinged about politics in this country and the general state of how this country is run - but the population in general is too fickle to see the who the culprits are. Just imagine if labour were in, this site be in meltdown.

The country is run by the rich and powerful people in this country who are doing nothing but damaging everything for the younger generation and future ones because they are so self serving.

The funny thing about this is that I want strict immigration rules and annoyed by the fact lineker doesn’t want us to make it illegal. But he’s entitled to his opinion. The BBC has never been impartial whatever you think, it’s just a propaganda machine.

You're right Regis, if Labour won the next election, this site would be in meltdown. There would be one silver lining though because you and 123 would be able to have your own private one to one conversations!
