If that Notts County 3 v 1 Dorking can be described by a fan(s) as "tedious" then it illustrates perfectly how far we have come on and what entertainment produce week in week out this season.

Far from a tedious football match IMO.

I'd love to see the viewing figures for last night's MOTD. I'd wager they were higher than normal. I watched it for the first time in a long time and have to say what a damp squib of a programme it was. As others have said, I think it could survive without the pundits, but definitely not the commentary.

Likewise with watching Notts against the dorks on BT. It was such a tedious match that without the commentary I would probably have turned that one off too.
    El Sid
I didn't watch it as I rarely do, unless Liverpool have beaten somebody 7-0. I have never liked Lineker as a pundit, or Shearer, so good riddance. As for the Dorking game, I watched that and commentary was ok, punditry stank. I think, Sid, that kind of performance is exactly what we get every game. Because, as the youngsters continually point out, statistically it works. Muddy pitch, Ooh Tommy, Bartlett and Regis. They were the days, eh?!

I was out so I didn't see MOTD, but there seem to be plenty of people on social media saying they liked seeing more football and less chat. I don't know if that's a reflection on the MOTD pundits and the current situation, or a broader observation. I suppose people don't normally get the opportunity to see what such a programme would look like. Someone even tweeted that famous interview between John Motson and Brian Clough where Cloughie told the pundits to shut up!

He’s spot on and how long ago! Unfortunately Lineker and the rest are milking the licence fee, hopefully this maybe the demise of Lineker and the other token presenters who are there because a few and not the majority maybe offended!

Viewing figures were up 500.000 so I guess plenty prefered it. I haven't watched it for years due to the amount of talking it has on it. Having said that I didn't watch last nights either because I'm not a fan of Premier League football these days

I always record it on watch in Sunday morning. Commentary is required but I fast forward though all of the punditry anyway

So it was perfectly fine for me.

Can't see the need to pay millions of taxpayer pounds for hosting and punditry for pre-recorded games. Now, live games are something else and these need the whole package I think

Exactly my tactics & thoughts I prefer commentary but cannot remember the last time I didn't fast forward through the waffle.

I'd like to think so but I'm guessing that increase was more down to curiosity as a result of all of the publicity that's been focussed on it.

Sadly, I expect Lineker et al will be back next week with nothing more than a word in his ear pleading for him to hold his council in future having now made his point. This open goal opportunity to get rid and replace these overpaid clowns will have been lost, with said pundits now loved and loathed to greater extremes than before in equal measure with the only damage being done to both the BBC and the government.

Just because 500 thousand extra watched it doesnt mean they preferred it. It was car crash TV. The proof will be if the numbers continue at that level in that format...
