I don't fancy the play offs at all if I'm totally honest .
There's not a right lot between the top 5 clubs if anything at all and everyone involved will be more than capable of triumphing at Wembley .
You can see a couple of penalty shootouts deciding things this time and that would make the play offs a lottery within a lottery in my opinion .
Best chance we have is to grab one of the automatic places and leave them to it .
Yeah I remember the 'promotion' Play offs being introduced in season '86, and I thought they were a really good idea. But there were also teams threatened with relegation as well at the time, which was ridiculous.
I suppose it does seem unfair on the team who have maybe been in the top 3 all season, and then they lose to the team who snatched sixth on the last day. Similar to Warsaw against us, in season '15. 🤭
Tha said it on another thread abart Ipswich at home later in the season. The Big games- this is why we watch the game of football.
Now the play offs are absolutely huge games whether we fancy it or not. I can't think of any bigger games that a club in our position could possibly face in terms of having success barring the 'the one off' Fa cup semis in 2008 and the one off Bradford game in 1997.
A club like us will never contest a champions league quarter/semi final or owt like that. It might be another century till we reach another FA cup semi by which time me n thee will be long gone.
That just leaves the play offs in terms of massive games for us in which we've contested 4 times out of the 35 seasons that they've been in existence.
Out of those 4 occasions that we've contested in the play offs, we've managed to win them twice, lost a final and lost a semi.
Nar a dunt know abart thee mate but those occasions were of truly palpitational proportions. Losing was absolutely horrible, especially the Ipswich 2000 final-Totally gutting. However, winning was truly awesome, not just the two finals obviously but the semis too. The 4 nil win at St Andrews in 2000. The comeback win at Huddersfield in 2006 and the home leg against Walsall in 2016 as Sam Winnall made it 3 nil. Times where as a Barnsley fan, it doesn't get bigger in terms of the buzz.
I think we are nailed on for the play offs this season but automatic also looks possible. There's potentially massive exciting games on the horizon should we not get automatic. Bring it on I say. Can't chuffing wait for it in fact.
We seldom get games of this magnitude at this club. It's always closely contested which makes it so big and exciting. Cherish it in my opinion.
Exactly Pass, these are the sort of games that we should be nervous and totally excited about. Its what being a fan is all about of course.
Think of how we all felt last season, in what was a despicable sh*it show of a season, coming as it did, straight after reaching the Play offs.
So last summer before a ball was kicked, Id have been delighted if we'd been offered this current league position, with 8 games to go.
Definitely bring it on!!. 👍
I don't mind big league games so much Pass because it's part n parcel of football life , tha's got to play everybody twice no matter what .
It's dealing with if it doesn't go our way that I find hard and it may not given the likely contenders .
These lads have put some real pride back in that shirt and Duff has done a tremendous job picking this club off the floor from last season .
Be hard to take if we don't make it and see this season end like that .
We'd have all gladly taken this situation back in August before a ball was kicked as tha sez mate. However, as the season got 10/15 games in, I thought the standard of this division was very poor and fancied us for a top 6 berth. Crazy thing is, we could actually win the league as things stand which seemed impossible at the end of January. The team has just got better and better as the season has progressed. If it is play offs then I think that we'll be the team that everyone wants to avoid
Now that you've explained it like that Animal, I can see what you mean. And I'm sure we all dread the idea of losing in the Play offs, as we know how it feels on both sides of the coin.
But we've just got to be positive about it, and try to enjoy it if or when it happens.
Its been asked before, is it an achievement to just reach the Play offs ?. Well yes it is of course as it shows the team have had a good season. But it then becomes absolutely v*ital that we win them, because nobody remembers runners-up do they. 😥
If we do reach the playoffs I think we need to look at it like this.
Turn the clock back to this time last season.
How were our supporters feeling back then ?
Then think about the start of this season when we were playing some good stuff but couldn’t score.
Lots of points were lost at the start of the season.
Then think where the club is now.
Win or lose the playoffs - this season has been a brilliant brilliant season.
Roll on next season.
Well said Pass.
Many good, and bad, memories are in our minds because of the Play Offs.
However good the performances were in the season who remembers the day we went up under Stendel ? Play Offs are where the memories have been this century. ( In the league )
The only exception, and a big one, was the day winning automatic to the Premiership and the scenes in Tarn afterwards.
