So, born on the 36th anniversary of the glorious 1970 Scottish Cup win.

Just look at this squad, with a 17 year old front right.

Although I went to many games with my old man before 1970, this is really the first team I remember properly.

Even better the following season. After we’d beaten Kilmarnock in the semi at Proper Mannies’ Muirton, Eddie Turnbull nipped into Dens Park on the way hame and paid £50k for Steve Murray who added an extra dimension to our midfield. Charlie Forbes called The Boss into his office and demanded an explanation for making an unauthorised expensive signing. Mr T told him,”I’ve just taken the club to a cup final, and the Aberdeen public is delighted*. Now that they see that we’re thinking big beyond this season, you’ll be a hero all over town”. Job done.

We really should have won the league in 1971.
