I’m personally not too fussed about these council dos, especially at a time when the council should have better things to spend their time and money on.

I read today that Forest contributed some or all of the money for their thing, no idea whether that’s true or not.

They could have offered to go halves with Notts or as others have said, just have a balcony appearance and speeches. From the attendance at the final and those who couldn't come then it would be well attended. As others have said, maybe one at the club instead. It got alot of recognition on Saturday as it was on alot of the news websites front pages and a good number of people at work in Leeds said they watched or listened to it. It's the oldest league club getting the title back. Boooooooo to the council ha ha.

More like recoup losses from Icelandic bank fiasco and the Robin Hood disaster. How on earth are is bunch of jokers allowed to govern a city is beyond belief.

Meh, at least we made the news if nowt else....

Nottingham City Council has said it will not be putting on a celebratory event to mark Notts County's promotion.

The world's oldest football league club secured a return to League Two in a play-off final at Wembley on Saturday.

The council said it was "delighted" by the victory and has displayed a banner on the Council House.

However, it said it would not be organising an event for the club in Old Market Square because of increased pressures on its finances.

A spokesperson for the Labour-run authority said: "We have worked extremely hard to identify the required budget but unfortunately going ahead with an event will not be possible.

"We will light up and display a banner on the Council House in honour of Notts County's achievement."

The move has been criticised by the Conservative MP for Bassetlaw, Brendan Clarke-Smith.

In response to a BBC post on Twitter he offered to pay for the celebration himself.

The move has also been met with anger from football fans.

Some feel Notts County's promotion has not been met with the same response from the council as Nottingham Forest's promotion last year.

A celebratory event was held for the city's other football club when it was promoted into the Premier League.

Lindsey Fitch said on Facebook: "We have two great clubs either side of the river. Should be able to be in that balcony like Forest was."

Simon Foster said: "As a Forest fan, I don't see how it was possible for us then and not the Magpies. Sounds extremely unfair."

Of course money and budgets maybe tight but they have managed to find money to host the Eurovision Song Contest in the Castle grounds on Saturday. Yet a club in the city is offered nothing.

Likewise if they are that short of money could they not just scale it down and invite the clubs staff and players onto the balcony to make an appearance? At least then all the fans could get the chance to gather in the square to celebrate.

I don’t know about other fans but I’m livid about this. It just shows how much the City Council does not recognise the massive achievement that this club has accomplished.

Hopefully they will change their minds.
Well, I wonder how many millions of pounds it would have cost to have the Notts players & staff appear at the council house for about half an hour.

Suppose you have to admire their thrift.

The pelters the council are getting from the media is going to hurt their ego somewhat.

I'm not overly bothered but the fact they shoved it down everyone's throat about them over the river, you'd think they'd honour a team that is actually in their area right? Also, what's with the forest badge in the tourism centre, why not a Notts badge?

I suggest emailing David Mellen to let him know that this is hurtful and disrespectful, especially in comparison with the Forest pageant organised last year [email protected]

    I have.
