If I slept for more then two hours uninterrupted, I would have thought I died.
Been that way since childhood for me. My astronomy and short wave radio hobbies always had me staying awake through the night.

Insomnia is like a friend. 🌜🌘

Lack of s e x is probably another issue at our time of life.

A late night w a n k may help but in all honesty it didn’t work for me last night!

I have never had a problem sleeping, I usually fall asleep as soon as I hit the pillow. I had nine and a half hours last night and ten hours the night before.

Not in my case LB, I've had problems with insomnia since the age of 15. Sadly.

If you're lying awake more than half an hour then get up and do something or you'll tie yourself in knots thinking about falling asleep. Avoid any caffeine after 4pm, there are some great apps with soothing noise to tune you out from the humdrum of the day too. Your body goes through 90minute sleep cycles which is why you can wake up feeling refreshed after 6 hours but terrible either side of that.

Pharmacies sell sleep aid tablets (Nytol) which is a sedating antihistamine, they can help get you back into rhythm which is useful for varying shift work. Avoid taking every night but 1 in 3 nights to guarantee a good night's kip can really help.

I tried nytol both the herbal and the other and it worked a while back but now not so good. Perhaps its just a phase - maybe I need a holiday!

Try a separate bed and an open window Phil and try to explain to your wife not to be offended.

The wife and I often end up in separate beds, when in Tenby at our place we always sleep in separate rooms as I mentioned earlier, neither of us takes offence.

My mum and dad slept in separate beds for about 20 years and a lady I’m friends with told me recently that her and her husband have done the same for ages purely due to sleep issues.

I sometimes find that I drop off to sleep with a side light on on a bad night, it’s almost as if you create a non expectation of sleep it suddenly happens.

The problem is “trying” to get to sleep, that’s a terrible mindset.

I have lived on a few hours sleep and up at 3-4am for a few years now
Recently I have had a few months without drinking and this has really helped, I didn’t think it would as occasionally I’d have a beer or gin to help sleep but found I’d wake at 3am

A totally natural thing that has been recommended to people I know and worked really well apparently is tart cherry juice apparently it’s good for quite a few other things too
But I know a few people who absolutely swear by it

Fed up of tossing in bed now, although I managed 4hrs last night instead of 3 with the cool breeze from the open window. Then this morning I stretched awkwardly and cricked me neck. Its now painful to turn my head this way and that way. Sleeping tonight will be a bonus
