Reckon a 6pm ko is a bit of a nonsense. Last Saturday we had one of the few days when all games were played in the same day, albeit Well v the Tims was at lunchtime. It made me nostalgic for the time that ALL games were 3pm Saturday kick offs apart from the odd midweek card and postponed matches. Game started at 3 o'clock first half 45 mins. (almost never any extra time), a 10 minute break and a second half with an occasional minute of extra time finishing at c. 4.40. Time to get down the town for a couple of pints before picking up the Sporting Post straight off the press from Tammy Sma' at Boots or even quicker straight from the premises at DCT's in Bank Street.

Nostalgia, nothing beats it, Dens in all its former glory, hot orange juice or bovril from the pie shop, match programmes when they were worth buying, the half time scoreboard, watching the scores on a telly in a tv shop in the old Wellgate after the game and not least watching players like Gilzean, Smith, Penman etc. in the 60s, Jocky, Gordon Wallace, John Duncan etc. in the 70s, Wright and Coyne, Jim Duffy etc. in the 80s.

Sometimes it seems a bit of a trial watching the Dees now and in the past 20 years or so but for every relegation there has been a promotion, the admins were offset by the sheer mayhem and exhilaration of surviving the Deefiant season. And then of course there was the Doon Derby. Only a few years ago these more recent events were but I get nostalgic about them too. Nostalgia nothing to beat it and you can keep your 6pm ko's.
