Not sure myself how many clubs are affiliated to DSA or how many members each club has. I do know however that it certainly used to be the case that some of the 'clubs' affiliated are based overseas and consist of two or three 'members'. I know that because I batted someone down once who tried to claim DSA had over 30 strong, affiliated clubs - two people, husband and wife, in Bermuda isn't a strong club as far as I'm concerned.

You're a member of one of the bigger and more active clubs, any idea how many members you have out of interest?

Friends of Dundee FC is a FaceBook page not a supporters' club.

As far as I am aware the DSA has 35 member supporters clubs. The Dundee supporters clubs are listed in the match day programme.

    Another interesting post.

I wonder if Nelms is using the fact that Friends of Dundee, a FaceBook group, has 5.9k subscribers as some kind of evidence that DSA represents that many Dundee fans.

One for George Cran to investigate I'd think. In fact George we know you read these posts so I'll lay down a challenge to you get justification for printing that DSA has thousands of members. PM me on here and we can discuss.

76 paid members is a good number. Not sure how many other supporters's clubs operate at that level but even if it's 10 clubs boasting that number (it won't be that many) then the idea of DSA having thousands of members is sounding pretty much off target.

I'm sure j said we are one of the bigger clubs, might be wrong.

Certainly one of the few that takes a bus to every game.

They can still claim to have members even if they don't charge a fee I suppose

I think you're right. Islay saying 35 clubs, many of which we know are tiny. I'd like to make an estimate of average membership as low as 20 and that might actually be high so based on your club at 76 let's say an average of 30 per club - enough for a bus between two clubs and very, very generous IMO. A bus between two clubs would be 17 / 18 buses every away game and we know that's nonsense. Wasn't even that many at Inverness at end of last season.

So if we assume 35 clubs at 30 members per club it's 1,050, although really we all know an average of 30 is way over the top, it's difficult to see where the idea of thousands of members comes from. I actually want to estimate 20 per club which is 700 affiliates.

This info will be out there and any journalist worth the name should be able to find it.

I'd estimate that in reality DSA more than likely doesn't represent too many more individual Dundee fans than Dee4Life does.

I’d predict Big Rabbies Dark Blues have at least double our number, going on numbers requested for Queens Park match, membership is into four figures, Broughty Ferry and Carnoustie, although they don’t run a bus to all away matches do have a large membership
