Not directly related but another example of how stupid the game has become. Watching the England game this evening, and yet again there is a session if "how many arms can you wrap round an opponent" at the first England corner. Fact is, no player on any side should be allowed to "link arms" as they were shown to do, it's just ridiculous and all involved should be booked and penalties awarded where appropriate. Enough pens awarded it would stop the practice dead.

Indeed, but we already have the "rules" in place to deal with dissent, just useless refereeing not getting a grip early doors

    Hey Tichi!!!!

Rugby seems to be cracking down on dissent again after being quite lenient for a while which resulted in lots of questioning and chat back in the World Cup.

And OMFG are we dire (just thought I'd add that) against a team ranked 171.

It was pretty uninspiring tonight. I suppose the job was already done, but…

As some of you know, I’m still involved in the game through refereeing. Almost exclusively indoor games. Almost exclusively adult games.

Obviously, the indoor game has tangible differences to the outdoor game, but the version I cover uses yellow cards to reduce the offending team by a player for two minutes, which is cancelled if the opposing team scores in that time.

If a penalty is given, there is an automatic yellow card whatever (obviously it can be more than that!) and, if the GK is the offender, an outfield player can be designated instead. if the team scores from the penalty, the team goes back to full strength.

I wouldn’t say it’s perfect, but it works for this version of football. I often think that the outdoor yellow card doesn’t really do much damage to the offending team. There might be some modification in playing (or a substitute might be brought on), but it only has any serious effect if the player gets a second, or has accumulated enough to miss a future game.

An indoor red here is a hard five minutes playing short (regardless of how many goals scored) and the player involved isn’t allowed to rejoin. If “windmills” are involved, they won’t be allowed to play in the next game (at least) either.

As I say, not perfect, but it makes some sense for 6v6 and 8v8 indoor games.

Sounds interesting Orgs and if it works it works.

Before changing any rules in the professional game properly enforcing existing rules might be a start. It shouldn’t need a FIFA edict they should just know and enforce the rules.

Hard to enforce I know but I would like to see players who roll for about 100 yards following the slightest contact be sent off to recover for ten minutes.
