I often wonder if the TV presentation matches the live experience?

    Armchair fans. Pah!
First half like I said we were abysmal BT.They simply walked through our defence on numerous occasions.Trafford was MOTM.Failed to clear our lines and gave the ball away in and around our penalty area.
Second half we huffed and puffed but never tested their keeper.Odabert is a joy to watch.Amdouni was wasteful and Foster was not composed when presented with half chances. We never laid a glove on them BT.
Plenty of effort in the second half but you cannot spurn chances like JBG`s header.
You cannot perform for just 45 minutes of 90 minute games.

On another day we could have scored 3 and won 3-2 ( Salah cross bar should have scored )

However we start games badly and imo anyway we don’t have the speed in transition and early in games this gives good teams the impetus and we end up chasing the games.

So whilst we should have worked Becker at one end ( Tresor refused to shoot ) they beat our press and we’re scoring at our end in seconds - slickly they moved the ball at pace and whilst we got bodies back Nunez was allowed to shoot through crowded players and it’s 0-1.

From that point on the bin dippers controlled the game with relative ease.

Second half was marked improvement and we raised our game to create some clear cut chances and score however for me we are very passive and non aggressive to win games ( too nice ) and lack a leader a big physical boy who gets about people centrally.

Anyway we had our go for 20/25 mins and should have scored JBG ( slows us down and should only play 5/10 mins at most ) Larson was new to the game with his chance but you have to work the keeper regardless and Berge s header well there is no comments for that.

Positive is Odebert who looks a handful and will only improve for his game time at this level he frightened their back line to death - Arnold couldn’t deal with him anyway. ( we won’t hang on to him I don’t think but he’ll go for good money eventually). Amdouni is a very intelligent footballer with quick brain and feet and he’s improving at this high level.
Tresor showed me enough to think he can play at this level his touch and carry of the ball was very good but not the finished article.

Overall the scousers were too quick in transition in with a bit too much quality for us and to put it in a bit of perspective Nunez cost £75 million for one player - we spent 97million on 15 players that shows how quickly football has moved even when we spend 100 million we are still miles off

A decent performance for me against a side that had too much for us on the day - can’t really be negative other than if you give teams like Liverpool a goal start and you struggle to score goals there is generally only one outcome. ( it’s sucked the life out of the stadium as well - didn’t help )

Mention for Trafford again who I’ve stuck with as I thought he was immense

A mixed bag of a performance.

Too much of the pain was self-inflicted. Whilst everyone wants to play out from the back, there is a time and a place for everything. Sometimes, especially with the press being applied by Liverpool, lumping it upfield past the halfway line or putting it in row Z is the best option.

On more than one occasion we played the ball into dangerous areas, straight to a Liverpool player, trying to be “clever”. Their second goal was created by Charlie Taylor. Instead of heading it out for a throw-in he headed straight to a Liverpool player in the centre of the pitch.

It is shocking that, at this level, we struggle to test their keeper. We had two or three situations where we should have tested Allison. The efforts weren’t even on target!

The decision making generally was poor at times. I do wonder who is the leader on the pitch. The so-called “experienced” players do not demonstrate it. The other day, against Everton, you could see Tarks screaming at his team mates - organising them, telling them off, encouraging them. I don’t see that with us.

I suppose it depends what you mean by 'matches', it's certainly the same game you're seeing but it will be a different experience. I would think live you're more likely to be carried away by the atmosphere, the enthusiasm of your fellow fans, you're more engaged with the action, the effort the players are putting in, to justify the time and effort you've put in to attending the game, you desperately want them to succeed and it can cloud your judgement.

Sat at home you're detached from all this, you can be more dispassionate, see the game and performance for what it really is and have a more balanced opinion.

A billion quid's worth of talent versus a tenth of that and we still gave the Scousers a game.

I was proud of the boys, they got a great reception from the home fans at the end of the game which is always a great indicator.

We are improving, did not get tanked and Jimmy Trafford and the sensational Wilson Odobert were worth the admission money on their own.

We simply cannot match Luton's physicality but we still beat them CiB.
