I thought they looked awful. They have a black panel on them that, from some angles, makes the players look as though they're not wearing shorts at all, but running around in their shirt tails.

Agreed. The black flashes on the sides of the shorts cause that effect. It did look weird!

The white flashes on the black shorts look weird to me as well. Parallel lines would look much better.
