When Stockport attacked us they did so in numbers and at pace overwhelming us and when we attacked them it took forever allowing them to canter back with 11 men behind the ball, not rocket science. All the top teams did the same hence they are top teams whilst we continue to adapt our possession football but sadly across the pitch, might be controversial but the facts don’t lie.

Our style produces a lot of goals when it's played correctly which it isn't since Maynard tried to "tweak" the backline. We used to go forward quickly, precisely and with aggression. Now we spend too much time ***** footing around and getting caught out! Gone are the "action" LW installed into them.

Baldwin has slipped so many times this season leading to goals, maybe a better choice of boot for the conditions might help Iwouldn't renew his or Brindley's contracts.

Given the fact that we are very unlikely to find a CB who will be able consistently give SM what he desires in that role, we have two options;

We persist and Maynard accepts mistakes will happen, taking the majority of the responsibility himself because that’s what he is asking that individual to do.

That role, and as a by product the whole back three, adapts to be more suitable to a L2 side and abilities of those available.

Given that it’s highly unlikely we’ll find a CB capable of doing it all in that role, Maynard must adapt to survive.

The comments about footwear seems obvious.
However, he never seems properly balanced in those tight situations. He is a tall player and when he tries to turn his feet seem too close together and he falls/slips.
I’m sure his choice of footwear must have been addressed surely.

The problem is, Maynard was recruited primarily because of the way he likes to play. If he were the type of manager who likes to get it forward early and not "dominate possession", he wouldn't have been on Radar's radar. If he's sacked, he'll be replaced by a clone.

The thing is with the way Notts play, it’s so driven into patterns that a decent percentage of the time, Baldwin doesn’t need to look because he knows where his teammates should be when he has the ball in various scenarios. Especially the ball back to his GK. Often Baldwin doesn’t look and generally makes the pass; it’s so drilled into him where the GK should be and into the GK where they should go. I understand that sometimes you’ve got to look, but that’s how football is coached nowadays.

That example lends itself perfectly to the whole issue. Is Baldwin making those mistakes because he’s not good enough or is he being asked to do too much.

But where do we get ball playing centre halves who also defend well? If they’re around they’re not playing in league 2.

You may need to change the way you play mid-season to suit what you have.
But you don’t lock yourself in by signing or re-signing players who are not good enough to do what you want. Probably for 2 years as well.
