Sad to hear. I well remember the cup game against Stoke in 1972. I was living and working on an RAF station in Norfolk with a crew from all over the UK. Being a Notts fan got me a lot of ribbing, so I dragged a few of them along with me to that Tuesday evening game. The underdogs, including Wilie Carlin, didn't let me down. No more ribbing after that. RIP Willie, and commiserations to your family.

One of my earliest memories supporting Notts was watching Willie play. A tenacious midfielder who, though only 5ft 4inches tall never took a backward step. RIP little un 🖤🤍🖤

He played for Leicester when they beat us in the cup 2-0 at Filbert street. We were very unlucky that day.

Fondly remembered and a Marmite character.
Loved by his own fans and detested by opposing fans.

An old school player who loved a tackle , determined and never gave up .
I remember Brighton's Peter O ' Sullivan " crying " to the referee after a typical Carlin challenge.
Willie's response would have got him a lengthy ban these days.

If my memory is correct I had a long chat with him about his time at Notts at his newsagents in Kegworth.

A lovely bloke and I always enjoyed watching him play.
