I think thereÂ’s a bit of snobbery with music aficionados like yourself Omeg in that you seek the purity of of a bands peak.

IÂ’ve been privileged to have seen a whole host of bands well after their halcyon days and IÂ’m glad I did.

    The Seekers 1997

The Hollies - 3 times in the 90Â’s.

    Blondie 1999

    ELO 2018

    Elton John last year.

I enjoyed every single performance and although I would kill to go back in time to see Debbie Harry in 1978 I took what I could get and IÂ’m glad that I did.

Oasis will still put on a great show.

In fairness, I think The High Flying Birds and Beady Eye have both produced good stuff, it just doesnÂ’t get the exposure now.

You canÂ’t be at your peak forever in terms of producing world class material, every artist has to accept living off their back catalogue if they stick around long enough.

ThatÂ’s why creating 10 to 20 memorable hits in a 5-10 year span has always been the magic formula for musicians.
I get what you're saying about any artist being unable to sustain great creativity throughout their career and certainly have no issue with them playing their old hits as these are, after all, what their fans want to hear when they go to concerts and the songs that keep the wolf from the door. Just saying that all artists suffer a decline in vocal ability as they get older at some point and that that, for me, can hamper my enjoyment of their performances. I rarely watch Jools Holland these days but the number of times I've seen guest heritage acts whose once great vocal abilities have declined to creaky weakness is quite sad.

I have no issue with watching older acts at all and some vocalists can go on much longer than others but after a point with any artist it's probably time to stop. As for Liam, he has only just entered his 50s and whilst I quite liked his recent retro-ish single with John Squire, his live vocals, for me at least, aren't what they were. Not saying he can't now sing at all, just that it's not the same and he doesn't have that power and edge he once did. I'm sure very many will enjoy the reunion concerts but just not something I would pay a vast amount of money to see however much I enjoyed their early stuff.

Same now with Paul McCartney and Duran Duran - they are embarrassing! Wish I could do the things that I could do 20 years ago!

Think most of us on here can fully understand your last comment Al! My 50s? Not so bad but definitely beginning to feel a difference now I'm in my 60s. In our minds of course we may still be in our 30s but our bodies are telling us different 😁
