Yep.
As I watched the game - I kept thinking TINKER MAN.
I hope that’s wrong and he doesn’t get tagged with that name.

It’s ok for DC to say I change things to suit.
But when he does that - the players need to know exactly what they are doing.
But they didn’t.

In contrast to Ismaels team - he used to say, when my players enter the field they know exactly what to do.
It might have been more or less the same formation every week - but it worked.

From the start at Stevenage - it was big booit up to Cosgrove as a lone striker.
A big lump that can neither win the ball, hold it up or play others in.
Waste of time having him play up front on his own.
DC got the tactics totally wrong - and it killed the game.

Well that was truly dreadful, I am afraid the Tinker Man did us no favours today , I am baffled as to why when Pines got injured he decided to go from a 5 to a 4, I am also baffled as to why the best wing back we have is left on the bench in Lofthouse yet O"Keefe who clearly struggles comes on and even more baffling was taking Cosgrove off when despite only feeding off scraps he was leading the line well, the only bright thing was the return of Jalo who looked pretty sharp and at least brought a threat to Stevenage, lets hope it was a one off all though I was not impressed with the Tinker Man deciding to use all his subs up with well over 20 minutes to go and no cover for any potential injuries. It was not the fault of the Tinker Man that we lost but he certainly did not help matters , anyway we move on to Old Trafford !!

As far as I’m concerned the jury is still out regarding DC.

In patches he’s got the team playing great football.
It’s far quicker and better to watch than what we had to endure last season.
But already there have been games like this.
Why ?
Because IMO he wanders off script.
As we all know there is a Barnsley Way of playing.
But instead of playing to our strengths.
DC changes the formation and tactics to counter the oppositions strengths.
He should NOT be allowed to do that.
The Game Model is to play to our strengths - not the oppositions.

In changing the formation and tactics he loses what the players understand.
A large part of the team looked lost today.
The club has set out a blueprint that is simple to follow and the HCs have been given the opportunity to tweak it.
But if it’s tweaked too much then we get diabolical games like we’ve seen today at Stevenage.
For example - where was the high press today ?
On the rare occasion we did use it we got some joy.
But usually it was just Cosgrove on his own.

DCs interview on Radio Sheffield after the match seems to indicate that he knows he got it all wrong.

I have worked it out , when we win it is because we played the Barnsley way and when we lose its because we didn"t, simples !!! Seriously there has never ever been a Barnsley way , it is down to every single manager in the history of our club to decide the pattern of play that he wants to implement , over the years there have different formations , tactics etc etc but the key to it all are the players, the squad and the ability of the players the manager has at his disposal, we have had some great squads and we have had some poor ones and the rule of thumb is simple , the better the quality the the better we do , its not rocket science and it is not down to a simple specific " Way "
