I've no doubt LW means it and meant it when he was here. He achieved what others didn't and got us back to where we belong and did it in the best way possible a win at Wembley as well. The reality is that it's a job and a livelihood and the days of managers/head coaches being at clubs for years is reserved only for those few elite at the very top. There is the odd exception like Simon Weaver at Harrogate who has been there 15 years. Other than that anymore than three years at a club and a manager is in a small minority. Outside of the premier league only Phil Parkinson, Dave Challinor, Ian Evatt, Nigel Clough and Andy Woodman have lasted over 3 years.

They are only ever six defeats in a row away from the sack so you have a bad month or two and it's game over. So I don't begrudge any manager or coach who want's to make a step up, especially when their stock is high. Also it's well documented that LW had it tough and did all manner of jobs before ending up where he is. So if the opportunity comes you've got to take it in football.

Everyone on here knows that Williams is ten times the coach Maynard is or will ever be. Folks that say otherwise say it for obsequious duty to Bros or they like squarking ****e to annoy people. If he moves on to West Brom, good for him. Wish he was here?

But didn't luke say he only moved to Swansea because it was closer to his home ? Would be surprised if he ends up at West Brom to be honest.

No not 10x the coach. He became very repetitive in his style & got sussed. That's why he was struggling well before he left. If he moves; also a lying b@stard about wanting to be closer to "home" after 1 year.

I don?t think Williams is 10x the coach Maynard is at all.
I just think he?s higher in his progression curve.
A lot of fans never wanted Maynard so they will never allow themselves to accept he is a good coach, but I think he?s done a very good job this season. You couldn?t legislate for the number of injuries to key players and as they are coming back, so is that form that we saw early in the season. With all the injuries, only the Salford and Crewe games saw us looking like we were hopelessly second best. Other than that, the performances have been good but lacking the quality on the pitch to convert them into points.
I like the balance Maynard brings, I like his in-game changes and I like his interviews.

    Couldn?t have put it better.

LW was great for us but he has moved on, and so should we.

I've changed jobs countless times. Don't see why it's any different for football coaches. Good luck to him if he goes. He'll always be a legend for getting us back into the league.

This is where I’m at when it comes to SM he is a really good coach in my opinion. LW is a year younger than SM but both of their coaching journeys are completely different. What they both have done is worked incredibly hard from humble beginnings and Notts gave/have fiven them a platform like players to progression in the game whilst also taking the club higher at the same time.

SM is always full of respect praise and positivity and encouragement towards his players. There have only been a few games where we have not been competitive as you point out. He has learned on the job over the past year and had to adapt quickly. It was always going to be tough to come in mid season when you’ve got a national league defence and league one attack and are replacing a loved coach who became a legend.

The past three games offer us some insight as to SM’s adaptability and calmness in approach under testing times. Also the character and mentality of the players. We were second best at Salford. It was recognised and acknowledged by all. Things were changed and also a returning Crowley has made a big difference. Abbott and Austin have got better and better under SM as well. Yesterday’s game is a good snapshot of having everything thrown at you but coming out on top. A defender injured in the warm up. Another defender injured later on. Scoring a goal of the season to only then concede a minute later. His nerves will have been shredded.

As for the injuries the head coach can’t be held responsible for a string of injuries to key players like JJ, Crowley, Edward’s, Grant, Robertson etc….

Sadly I just don’t think a section of the fan base will ever accept SM no matter what he does. It reminds me somewhat of when Keith Curle replaced Martin Allen. To this day Keith Curle had us finish in our highest position this century 7th in league one.

Good post that. After the Salford game, I felt for the first time that SM wasn't the man to take us forward, but I'm delighted that he's managed to turn it around with three wins on the bounce. He's obviously a talented coach. I still have concerns about whether he has what it takes to lead us to promotion, but I think he deserves more time on recent performances to show that he can.
