He?s not a better footballer than Beyer - reads the game better , and carries the ball better

Egan Riley has good passing range though - we?ve been here before with Harwood Bellis who I thought was better than all three and the league with Southampton not looking the player he was.

Our centre backs get protected a lot ( that isn?t a criticism of them - I do watch them sometimes though and we?re lucky to get away with stuff .

I watched Beyer through the Kompany promotion campaign, and I honestly didn't get all the hype about him. I thought they he looked good on the ball but slow and weak defensively. Both CJ Egan and Esteve or in a different league, and their summer transfer interest will prove this.

Beyer had / has the makings of being a brilliant centre back how he?s slated is beyond me.

A very talented young man who played Germany?s u21 before being struck with a horror injury and then a re op where it didn?t work.

I have everything crossed for this lad because he could really be something special, he just got the injury ata bad time in his career and it stopped his development and our benefit.

Still only young man and opportunity for him and us.

Would we have ever uncovered him if Beyer & Ekdal had remained fit?

I reckon he was our 8th rated CB last season. 1)Al Dakhil, 2)Beyer, 3)Delcroix, 4)Ekdal, 5)Esteve, 6)O'Shea were all in front of him and I'm sure Kompany would have played 7)Charlie Taylor at CB in front of him if he'd needed to.
