I've had similar experiences with higher position union leaders in the past myself 68 and felt very much like yourself-but this was some time ago. Mostly, I am happy that those negotiating wage awards in my own union these days are pushing as hard as they can. What makes me smile is that when any subsequent deals are done, the company HR spin dept goes into overdrive to try and say that it is all the result of them wanting to reward all their hard working staff when I know damn well their initial offer was pretty
    s hite!

Biggest issue these days in sectors like my own is that so many new staff are younger people (who often live at home still) on part time contracts. The weekly union fee may be much less than the cost of a pint or just a little more than a bar of chocolate but this still makes it harder to recruit and ultimately only higher membership percentages enable better negotiating positions. I find that most who moan about wages etc are not members though.

Anyhow, back on the subject of Boingy, I hope he is well and that we see him back on here soon along with others who have not posted for a while.

So do I. In fairness Boingy and myself had a couple of breakdowns in communication a while back. I was trying to enter into debate yet he seemed to take it as an attack on his personal views when I was just trying to add another perspective.

I explained myself, didn't get personal, took a step back and left him to himself for a bit. Why? I've never met him and I don't know him any better than he knows me. That's because by a strange coincidence he's never met me either.

We all have a past. We all have a personal narrative. We all have our own take on what we read, see or hear because we all interpret them in our own way as our pasts and personal makeup have a huge influence on how we synthesise our present and move forward.

There are times when some of us can't move forwards because we're stuck in our past. This has affected me greatly over the years but I've no personal interest in sharing the whys and wherefores of my own personal inertia on a forum. Because it's personal...... to me.

Wherever he is and whatever he's doing I hope he's ok and returns with a Boing in his step and a bounce in himself. The same goes for Mick and also Al who doesn't seem to have been around to post his largely unique brand of b@ll@x for a while either 😂 .

Which reminds me, I need to drop Al a text 😁 .

The beauty of a good forum is different views and perspectives, which we can agree with or disagree with. This made Al, Boingy, Mickd and others such good posters. If we all agreed on everything, it would become quite boring.

It's easy to become determined to win a debate around a matter. Most of us probably fall into that trap. But accepting that we probably can't change someone's perspective and simply sharing our own and accepting someone else has another, is enough and where we need to be.

I concur and hope that Boingy is ok. He is most upbeat and overflows with optimism and there is certainly no problem with that.

As you point out 68, we all have differences in our lives and these will formulate our personal opinions. We all, as Baggies, will naturally have differences. We all support the same club, perhaps in different ways, however, at the end of the day we all want the same thing. We will all have very different views on how we believe the club should be run and different views on managers/coaches and there ability to get the most out of players.

Where it gets difficult is when people get personal or where they make statements regarding other posters which are unfounded. To make such unfounded personal comments about another poster in order to try to gain an advantage is particularly distasteful. As difficult as it is, if you know what you’re about to post is personal or offensive, stop, take five minutes. Read through what you’ve scribed. Chances are you will change what you have written.

We can all get heated, whether it be at work, in a pub or on forums like this one. At work or in a pub, you can see the other person so the visual impact of their facial expression comes into play as well their tone. When we write, something may be said tongue in cheek but because two people are unable to see the other, what is written can often be taken out of context.

The simple answer is, if you got it wrong apologise. An apology does not make one look small or weak, on the contrary it shows you are a credible person, one with understanding which will likely be admired by most.

Another simple way to avoid confrontation is perhaps not post when one is not in a good mood or perhaps, one has over indulged on their favourite tipple celebrating another fine Baggies victory or perhaps it’s more likely drowning our sorrows to be fair.

So come on all, let’s put an end to the nonsense and at least make an effort to try to get along without it getting personal.

All good point OB...however I do feel taking time away from social platforms is a much more rewarding experience for clearing one's head from a build up of toxicity that prevails from instant technology. I am a contributor on one other site that is very niche market and so not a huge amount of individuals on it but they are all like minded mature contributors. I have been on this site quite some time now and I hang around cause it is for the most part about The Albion. But this site appears to be slowly dying a slow demise. Always worth remembering that more people read these threads then contribute to them as posters.
As I said before I wish everyone good health and I never take things to seriously, regarding football. Will the last person out turn off the lights....please.
