Every now and again I feel like you're capable of an actual discussion.

I do somewhat agree with where you're coming from, but more often than not players of colour often are referred to by their traits - what they are - rather than who they are, it's one of those things where you'd not call a white player that as casually as a black player and it's where it stems from.

It's been a common thing in sports for years and really has been considered more in the past four years a bit stronger than it used to be.

Here's a paper where someone was quoted way back in 1987 as to why beastial terms are subtly racist.

Basically... Victor Wanyama would likely be called a 'beast' but Sam Vokes would be called a 'unit'

We have completed the signing of Guinean forward Mai Traore from Norwegian club, Fredrikstad.

An undisclosed fee has been paid for the 25-year-old, who will join us subject to international clearance and a visa being granted.

Traore, who has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the option of another year in the club's favour, has more than 60 Norwegian top-flight appearances to his name.

And director Richard Montague is delighted to bolster our attacking options by adding him to the squad.

Montague said: "Mai is a really exciting signing for us, bringing pace, power and an eye both for goals and assists.

"He's very effective in the press, his link-up play is strong and he's left footed, which adds another dimension for us at the top of the pitch.

"While his performances in Scandinavia indicate that he's more than capable of making an immediate impact for us, we feel he has huge potential to improve and we believe he's joining the perfect club to do that."

Traore's first move to Scandinavia saw him sign for Swedish third-tier club, Vasalunds IF, as a 19-year-old. Having impressed for their development sides, Traore's breakthrough season came in 2020 when he helped fire the club to promotion with 23 goals and eight assists in 29 matches.

His exploits put him on the radar of several clubs, with one of Norway's biggest teams, Viking FK, winning the race for his signature.
Traore went on to make 36 top-flight appearances for Viking before spending the 2023 campaign on loan at Tromso in the same division.
He completed a permanent transfer to Fredrikstad last January and will soon commence a new chapter in English football.

I'm quite excited about this - I read he signed for Fredrikstad for 300k, if we keep Jatta them both linking up could be something special

Fingers crossed AJ stays. Those two would scare the pants off any defence.
Haven't seen anything posted but has he been playing recently? Is he match fit?

This has to be a possibility.
Though if we sold Jatta today for ?750k or ?1m, it would have to be Macca because Mullin is supposedly not match fit and Traore won?t have a permit for a little while.

Transfermarkt has that fee at Euro350k and gives him a current market value of Euro450k so I think the club/Radar must be pretty darned sure about this one. No idea what we've paid, of course, but it won't be peanuts that's for sure.

Is it OK for Dave Bracegirdle to call Jatta a ..Gambian beauty..?
