Yes I thought on average we were losing approximately 2m a year in the NL and they also got stung by covid so with last years loss too I wouldn?t be surprised if it?s quite a bit higher. I guess all irrelevant if they?re comfortable. Good points from others on away attendances at Meadow lane and I?ll flirt with my usual optimism we?d be top half if we got there.
I?m still under the view that they?ll try and stem loss at about ?30m and hope to break even with a hope to get to the champ and sell us for more than that which I guess is conceivable for a well run club with 15-20k attendances in the champ.

If I recall my football manager (game ) days, L1 was definitely better money but it wasn't a huge jump, and yeah a total nightmare to get out of because of teams rotating in and out of the Championship at the top of the table. But championship was a huge jump in income, millions extra per year.

So based on this expert knowledge, I would expect L1 to be a bit easier on our budget, unless we do the dumb thing and try to buy our way out of it.

However, getting promoted from L1 is a whole order of magnitude harder than going from L2 to L1. When we get to L1, we will absolutely need to temper our expectations as fans. First season just staying up will be success in my view, and mid table by second season? I'd probably be chill with it. We should always aim/budget for playoffs tho.

Championship is a huge jump in income, but it's also a huge jump in terms of wages. Most Championship players will be on over ?10k per week. I'm not sure if it's easier to turn a profit there that it is in L2.

I think this will depend on how we spend and what we aim at. If we want to get auto-promotion? No chance without taking a huge loss every year you try. But aim for mid table? I could see that being very profitable or at least "easy" to break even if we have other income. Remember we aren't going to stop developing and selling players, and players too good for the Championship are worth truly silly money.

Anyway, getting ahead of ourselves somewhat hehe

Joe Palmer said in December 2023 that the owners think they could sustain the club "probably in the lower Championship": https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67770971

One step at a time of course, we're getting a lot ahead of ourselves.

Is that the point when they plan to sell the club to Taylor Swift?

The Sultan of Brunei is still a fan, I think.

In this era of celebrity-run clubs, you'd think Notts County would be quite a popular choice for a high-profile takeover. Not that I'd necessarily want that.

Not necessarily. The profit and loss accounts aren't included.

I didn't realise that Joe Palmer became a director this month.
