Sunderland's blitz of the Clarets certainly didn't help their season.
After that game our record was P19 W14 D5 L0 F38 A7 Pts 47 ==== 2.47 points per game
Sunderland's record was P19 W7 D4 L8 F19 A22 Pts 25 ==== 1.25 points per game
Prior to that game we had averaged 1.96 points per game and Sunderland had 1.8 points per game and we had 2 points more than them.
It will be interesting to see what happens tonight because Sunderland were booed off in their last home game!
MInd you, I was in Sunderland on Friday night watching the Manfreds and loads of Mackems were watching the game in the pubs and the place was heaving after the game. I was pleased to escape.
I commented in my end of season review that I don’t think Sunderland fully recovered from failing to win at Turf Moor. They were mightily annoyed that we celebrated like it was a win but they had come to Turf Moor two seasons previously and celebrated snuffing out the threat of Nathan Tella as they drew 0-0 on that occasion too. We’ll see shortly how they get on in the second leg v Coventry.
.
Indeed BT.Coventry were by far the better team over two legs but they failed to take their few chances.The Sunderland goal was a bit of a fluke.He headed it with the back of his head and in relity it could have gone anywhere.
Luck plays a massive part in these games or fine margins as SD used to say.
It was great to see 42000 Mackems go barmy after 122 minutes of near silence
I was rather enjoying the 122 minutes of near silence. Coventry must be thinking they ran over a black cat. How did they manage to lose over 2 legs they largely dominated. I am looking forward to watching the Mackems go up against the Blades. They each won their home games when they met during the league season.
Coventry didn't triumph because they failed to score goals when they were on top. As with many teams these days, they have lots of possession, however, they do not turn this into attempts on goal whther on target or not. So many times you see teams get into an area around the penalty area, then turn back and the ball ends up back with their own keeper.
Many fans seem to want this sort of football, however, you only win games if you score goals. Twenty eight passes in and around the centre circle and then pass back to the keeper is a very common occurrence in modern football. Sad, really.
