I think figures of ?3-4m are wildly over optimistic and if an offer around the mooted ?1.2m purchase price came in, if the lad himself wanted to go I suspect it would be accepted.

Over optimistic? A player who scored 14 goals last season in a very average League 1side and you say he is not worth 3-4 Mill?

I bet you would love him in your current team.

It’s a shame Barry Fry doesn’t work for us. Sam would be going for 5 Mill minimum if he was in charge.

I think 2 million is what we would get. As mentioned above, I think this will dictated by what the lad himself wants in that if he wants to go, then I think we will give it the nod. It would be a massive worry for me if he did as I dont think we would reinvest.

    Are you on glue!!??

We paid 1 million pounds for him. He has 2 years left on his contract. Exeter have a sell on clause on any sale we make. He is unrecognisable from the player we brought in 2 years ago. He's entering the prime (age 26) of his career.

And you think we'd sell him without making a significant profit?

I suspect it's not a case of what you THINK, rather what you would WANT.

I suspect somebody has been looking at the wage bill

I think the club is still looking at offloading one of the high earners, Hugill or Nombe, the latter currently being the most attractive to other clubs

If Nombe was a Peterborough player, they wouldn't open their shop unless 4 million quid was on the table. They sold a centre half to Rangers for 2.9 million this summer.

You just know that we'll sell Nombe for an "undisclosed" amount, the reality of which will be 2m. We'll reinvest 300k and the rest "will go on wages".

We have to get top dollar for him and that means easily 3-4 million. He's 26 years old. He could score 20+ goals this season.

Why does Paul Davis publish such articles? Only Rotherham do it.
He has 2 years of his contract still to go and this should not be under discussion.
It?s more like a click bait article.
We need to improve our squad not make it worse.
    These articles really annoy me.
Is scuttling along in the lower reaches of this league the limit of our ambitions?
If it is then the owner needs to sell up.
Time and time again we have been promoted and not consolidated, signing journeymen.
Encouragingly this year we are going for youth but that has to be with experience, so if we sell Nombe, who exactly are we going to bring in that?s better than him.
A football fan shouldn?t be concerned with how much money we get for them. Winning the match is all that matters. At my age I want success but this constant talking us down will not attract anyone.
We now seem to be referring to the likes of Stockport County as big guns in our league. Give me strength. I think if that?s true the club has given up. We were 3 divisions ahead of them a couple of seasons ago.

Heliospan, we have always been poor at selling our players.

    Viktor Johansson 1.2 Mill
    Ollie Rathbone 500,000
    Ben Wiles 1 million+
I seem to have forgotten others we sold?, help me out here.

Just those three typify our 'giveaway' prices instead of looking after all three, by offering them 'earlier' contracts and letting them go elsewhere for next to nothing. Had we extended their contracts and had to balance the books by selling them, they would have been worth hell of a lot more. Who knows, Ollie may still well have been here had we treated him with more respect.

You’re right Brin I’d love him at the reebok but I think anything over ?1.5m to ?2m for Sam is pie in the sky. If you were a Championship club and he’d proved it there then maybe but those kind of numbers rarely get paid for L1 players. Look at Wycombe who were touting ?7m for Kone but are now looking at way less than half that. Obviously if someone with deep pockets in the Championship sees him as the man they want then you may get that or more but I sincerely doubt it however much you rate him. It seems like it’s the lad himself who’s pushing the move so that may also affect how much you get, you certainly don’t want an unhappy player. Like I said, if you get your money back or slightly more and his wages off the books it would be a good move all round.
