I can remember (dunno how) that when Ashman was sacked a little ditty used to be sung
"alan ashman, on the fire, on the fire" unless it was my sister who made it up and sang it.

Vic Buckingham for me. A legendary coach; although I didn't appreciate it at the time!

My first game at the Hawthorns was an extremely boring nil nil under Don Howe. Honestly can't remember who it was against but the experience tempered my expectations moving forward.

Not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing to be exposed to extreme boredom at such a tender age but it seems to have got me through some of our dullest moments in the decades since.

Footnote: Vic Buckingham was our boss from 53-59 before going on to introduce his style of football at that little known Dutch club....... Ajax.

Vic Buckingham. I remember the 1954 cup winning season, I was nine. Where have all the years gone?

Had to check but it was Jimmy Hagan. I first went in the 63-64 season. So lucky to have started going just when we had seven years of Cup runs and Finals.

Alan Ashman for me, though I was quite young then. The first manager I was really aware of (as opposed to just the players) was Don Howe.
