Still early days yet, hes still coming back from his injury
My half time comments to my mate Dave in Germany.... Crap ref. Travis awful. Poor defending for the goal. Trav, 3 fouls opening 5 minutes, warned by ref, another foul on 12, got away with it, then the stupid pull that got the yellow that led to their goal. He could have had 2 and be off. Needs subbing off.
Cracking 2nd half. They had the best of the 1st half yet we had the better chances. Really a 0-0 game first half, however, poor defending for their goal or it would have stayed 0-0. Nearly conceded a 2nd early doors 2nd half. After that it was one way traffic. Murkin is the left back going forward. He had a cracking game today.
Playoffs? I don't think so.
There's much discussion/argument on social media on Travis. IMO, he's had one good game for us. He's also garnered way too many cards. There's a minority pointing to his injury forced absence and that he's still getting back to fitness. Another minority blame adverse fan comment for destroying his confidence. The majority simply see an inconsistent player who simply hasn't done it at Derby thus far who collects yellow cards like they're going out of fashion.
a 90 minute performance of the level of the 2nd half one ought to see us get a hatful against Wednesday next weekend. Unfortunately, it doesn't often work that way...
Also, JE has got that monkey off his back. Winning a game having gone behind. He'd not done that at Derby nor at Blackburn.
Whichever way we look at it that was a heart warming and reassuring second half performance. Hadn’t realised Eustace hadn’t won after falling behind before yesterday. Another big plus for team morale.
Agree completely about Travis. At the moment he looks like a rare poor signing, a liability at times, but there’s no point fans (not you) having a go at him on match day. That’s just destructive. Up to skipper and manager to work it out between them. I thought he looked better against Hull but yesterday’s booking/free kick was ridiculous.
We had the defensive line spread across the edge of the 18 yard box and positioned between the posts. They put the ball beyond the far post which left Murkin to try to mark 3 players. There's the 2 man wall, then Ward followed by a long line of players DBDDDB then Morris B Aggy BB Murkin B. Morris appears to go with Cashin, another Blackburn player stands still ans Aggy stands next to him leaving Murkin exposed, His man was the last one. The scorer was the next man inside. It's the man in bold who scores.
My saying that Murks man was the last one depends, of course, on us actually marking players rather than zones. If we're marking zones then it's working as no zone has scored against us this season. From Cashin the list, ahere B is a Blackburn player, is: Cash Morris B Aggy B B Murkin B. Blacburn have overloaded the back post area. Much of our defence is covering the middle of the goal to the near post. Utterly wrong defending and if a team of mine, when I was coaching, had done that, I'd have been livid.
really should have been booked on 5 minutes for his 3rd foul. As it was, the ref merely "had a word". 7 minutes later he fouled again and got away with it. He can't complain about the yellow he got as he got away with at least 1 earlier in the game. Using whataboutery, you could point to Szmodics getting pulled down earlier in the half when we didn't even get a free kick. However, refs aren't known for making amends. He was wrong to miss the Szmodics incident when their player grabbed his arm with both hands and should have given the free kick and a yeallow. That was referee error. He would (should?) not make amends by letting another player get away with the same thing.
