Ah, I'm a wee bairn in comparison to your good self Prando as I was only born in 61😀 Mind you, I can remember the cane and slipper stuff too, at least it was still a part of the culture when I first started school, though it didn't last long.

I do remember at Primary school getting rapped across the knuckles several times with a ruler by the new headmaster because I'd got into a fight. I had had enough of being bullied by this one lad and lost it one day and punched him in the mouth and bloodied his nose. My dad, a teacher himself, went ballistic and tore into him.
