See that’s the other side of the coin, companies will do equal opportunities race or *** but like you say it should come down to the best candidate not race or ***

Indeed but the implication in the current stats is there is inherent racism. This is the argument for positive discrimination.

which isn't always a true reflection, if people don't have a particular skill set how can they apply for a particular job regardless of colour/race? From an oil and gas perspective in UK i can honestly say i've only came across a handful of any coloured/foreign applicants in any recruitment process i was involved in. I think thats because geographically most O&G workers are Scottish or north east England which doesn't have a high rate of coloured/foreign people, not like London, i can honestly say in my 16 years doing this i've came across no more than 4 cockneys in the O&G industry which accounts for over 300,000 people.

In the UK theres not many coloured or female oil and gas workers, it is a predominantly male white industry but that can and should easily change in time

Linkedin is a strange one where any UK job advertisement is hijacked by Indians and Nigerians commenting 'interested' 'please review my profile' these guys don't get the jobs simply because they're not UK based so to hire them and pay flights etc doesn't make business sense when we can hire from within the UK, nothing to do with race or colour

Abroad is different, i've worked along side people of all colours and all parts of the world, i've been places where the ex-pats were there to try train the locals up to our UK standard to align all personnel, sure when i was in Azerbaijan BP had a thing where for every ex-pat hired there must be 5 'locals' hired

Would you then, be happy for Utd (whenever Robbie leaves) to allow applications from black managers only in order to try and make things 'more equal'?
