Labour clearly need to elect a leader who can drive the party towards government rather more effectively than they have for a decade .

This means in effect they have to be better at being the Tories than they are .

They might also find helpful ditching the social conscience and the pity of poor people , low wages , inequality and young people getting on the property ladder .

Not enough of the electorate care and besides that charities can take up the slack .

They need to find some very wealthy funders and then repay them by offering attractive tax breaks and the lowering of workers rights , the more Russian super wealthy the better .

Union funding is so last century and the unions themselves are an irrelevance .

It would be smart to court Murdoch and the media barons too and promise not to change things too much .

When all of the above have been ticked off the next election may be a bit of a contest .
