I think the government do have some blame to take here. No they didn't have any responsibilty for this particular virus but we have had out breaks of these bugs before and it was only a matter of time before we would get one that wasn't so easy to control a 6 year old would suspect that but no preparations have been put in place for such an outcome. Its the usual: botch up feckin Britain and its a disgrace. Always reactive and never proactive. Its the same with the environment. Flood defences start coming up when its too late. No fecker does owt about global warming...
How can you blame a "botched up fekin Britain". Almost every country in the world is effected and are in a lot worst state than us. You seam to have a real agenda with britain and the way it's being run. Your always looking to blame someone or something. Not everything in the world is avoidable.
FFS if Victor meldew and alf garnit had a love child I'm sure you would be number one candidate.. Sundays you do your finest work.

Well if most younger people have been exposed to it and isolated then there will be less people to pass it on to the older folks.

Number of older people who get it at any one time will be significantly less and therefore if vulnerable people do get it there will be more beds and ventilators available in the hospitals.

So are you saying that the problem of pandemics is unavoidable? That we couldn't forsee this might happen? What about SARS, bird flu etc? We know the potential is there. Any chuffin decent scientist will tell you that.

No we are not the only country to be botched up . Most countries are but it is the country I live in. It is the nature of capitalism. Live for today and who gives a feck about tomorrow.

Don't you care about your grand kids fiture. What would you think if there was a new bug discovered that wipes out kids instead of old foik . You may wish to feck somebody had planned to deal with such an eventuality? I know I would.

I would hope that in somebodys noggin that someone might think this might happen one day and start thinking ahead for a change,

I think Sundays bring the worse out in your naivety... Maybe you are Frank Spencer's love child...

At the very leasr we should have a health system that is at least capable of getting some sort of grip if there was to be a pandemic. It hardly runs properly as it is. So yes there is an element of blame ....

It's nothing to do with being naive and most things in life are avoidable though not everything. You can't allocate for every eventuality. It's not a case of living for today and fek the future. Millions of people have trouble surviving today never mind about there future grandkids.
What would you like our government and the rest of the world to do to combat it differently?
If the government said to 5 million pensioners. Don't go out or have visitors for the next 8 week (predicting 16 week) how many would listen.
If your family was on the bread line would you be happy for them to not work because the government enforced a lockdown.
Poverty will kill a lot more folk than any virus.

There are so many areas in which we need to be ahead of the game Cayton, The environment and global warming is a major one but we fiddle as Rome burns ans we know what happened to the complacent Roman Empire...

Don't dispute what you are saying about poverty and priorities Cayton but I would argue we can aim to plan to deal with all these problems at least. We are meant to be an intelligent species after all...

I would like the government to have had a strong health service to start with to give us a fighting chance. Have you been happy with how the NHS has been looked after in recent years?

How much money do we invest in science etc nowadays? Lip service is only paid to science in schools. Science is being squeezed in universities. We don't invest in areas we should. Priorities are all wrong...

Old and lone people self isolating should put a note or something in their window that they need assistance. Shopping etc.
Old people near us, but you dont know if they already have help.

The NHS is on its knees and has been for many a year.
I remember strikes in the 70s/80s and it's been down hill since. Though I do realise the pot is only so big and wherever the money is spent it will be wrong in 10 years time.
We're struggling to cope ATM. As said NHS is on its knees so spending money on something that "could happen" rather than "is happening" would be a foolish move by any government.
Obv there isn't enough money to run schools like we all would like plus billions the NHS needs just to scratch the surface. Global warming ect ect.

What area would you like us to reduce spending in so that can be invested in priority areas? And would it be enough to make the difference

No NHS here in Seattle roly and health services are already overwhelmed even with a large proportion of people having stayed at home for the past 2 weeks. If I get sick the general understanding is nobody is possibly coming to help.

Start by taxing the rich more...get a grip on tax dodgers...get rid of the royal family and spongers...3 come straight to mind...base our economy on need not greed.. the good health for all and reasonable wealth for all should be a priority of all policies...

No you can't plan for all eventualities but not having a strong health system is poor even if we didnt have the extra problems we have now...
