Stockport have essentially had a year head start over us. They finished fourth last season and won just under half their games (22) and lost 11. Without researching I’m guessing they’ve seen where they were a bit short, and learned and strengthened. I’m predicting similar with us. Although at the moment we won half our games and are just short of the magic two points a game to stand a chance of winning the title as we would be on 32 points. We have 30 points so we are on course.
We have got Crewe away next and they could be a potential playoff contender. So that game should tell us more where we are at.
After we have played Stockport away just before Christmas we will be at the halfway mark so that will be a key milestone. If we are in the top five at Christmas then that will be a solid foundation to build from in the new year.
Mullin definitely kicked out at Jones, hence the rolling around on the floor, when he realised he would be in trouble. Cheat of a player.
It was more than rolling around on the floor. He was beating the ground with his fist, which is the type of gesture players only tend to do when they've sustained a serious injury. If we've reached the stage where that's now becoming part of the play-acting then it really is appalling behaviour. We need to have a sign when a player needs urgent attention, to use that to get out of a booking or red card is disgraceful.
I suppose it's possible he hurt himself in kicking out at Jones, which he clearly did on purpose, or in the tangle and perhaps we should give him the benefit of the doubt, but if he has form for this then - for the sake of his fellow professionals - somebody needs to have a serious word with him.
Because Langstaff, Jones and McGoldrick all missed chances that you'd usually expect them to score, and all our other attempts were wide or straight at the keeper. The Wrexham board is full of "Parky's tactical masterclass" and how he outwitted Luke Williams, but that's not what I saw yesterday. I saw a close game between two decent sides where one team took their chances (including a lucky deflection) and one team didn't. We can't have many complaints if we don't score, but apart from the finishing we weren't as bad as some are making out.
McGoldrick scored 25 goals in League 1 last season, will he get close to that in a league below. His experience at a higher level says he should but will he
I had to laugh at that song they were singing at the end "Notts, Notts are falling apart again". We're still above them.
