So those 33,000 cost less than £100m per year in support. 24% of them fail their asylum claims - maybe the dubious Albanians you quote. The others are determined as genuine and go on to build lives and pay taxes in UK. If they earn minimum wages when they start working they will pay back their support and contribute to healthcare etc. as any other citizen. Mybe it is a one-child policy that you advocate ?

How much do you think dodgy PPE contracts and Test & Trace cost UK ?

In that case, maybe those "ordinary folk" should look at whether it's the 33,000 are leeching the cash, or whether it goes a fair bit higher up.

Do you honestly think any government whether Labour, Tories, Lib dems Greens or who ever will stop those that are leeching cash? Because it has gone on for hundreds of years.

And, the most recent attitude survey (unfortunately I can't find the link) shows that people recognise that the Uk has a resposibility in International law to accept aylum seekers, not do what this government has done, close down all legal routes. They also recognise that immigration is good not only for the economy, but also the culture of the country.

Immigration is fantastic for this country I am all for it but I am a bit old fashioned in that I would like to know who is coming here. Just recently there have been many Albanians coming here via the channel? I didnt know there was a threat to live over there?

Immigration is a net gain and helped us build a good economy as part of the EU. We should always help asylum seekers but have made it so hard to get here legally that no wonder they try illegal ways to cross. 33,000 are not causing our economy to tank, that's the idiots in charge. Maybe they could get the massive corporations to pay the right amount of tax or stop wasting millions giving their mates contracts for things that either don't work or aren't needed. So the poor get poorer and the rich get richer, the gap widens but it's all down to 33,000 immigrants. Ok then. As for seeing doctors and dentists plus let's include the nurses who Coffey is driving away, if you don't make it worth their while for them to work for the NHS instead of privately then what do you expect. Alot of these people have gone to study for years, often coming out with massive debt. To end the Nursing bursarys was absolute madness, you've probably stopped another 40,000 nurses there from applying as who has 8 grand laying about then can work for free in cost of living. As Frenchmagpie says, anyone who believes the right wing crap and the daily hate is too far down the rabbit hole.

Where has this figure of 33,000 come from lol, there have been at times 1,000 crossing the channel a day this summer. Which would give you that figure in just over a month. Times this by 12 and you have over 250,000, given days when fewer crossed. Given they are all given free health care and accommodation are you telling me that doesn't contribute to the financial mess we are in. More of a problem is their religion, guaranteed to cause trouble. Oh I forgot to mention the hotels that are happily taking our cash through the government to house these illegal immigrants.
Again I will ask, do you not think had Labour been in power during covid, Labour MP's would have handed out the same juicy contracts for PPE etc. to their mates (probably the same people as who the Conservatives gave money to).

The number of people who have crossed the English Channel in small boats so far this year has now exceeded the total for the whole of 2021.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said 601 migrants made the crossing on Monday in 19 boats, bringing this year's total so far to 28,592 people.

In 2021, the total was 28,526 people.
