Collins still wants a midfielder and a forward today.

    O’Kane:
Pre-Bolton / deadline day press conference at Oakwell.

Reds close to announcing a left back. After midfielder and striker as well if possible. Neill Collins wouldn't comment on Niall Ennis, played down George Byers. Said Styles is still likely to leave. Lopata set for a loan
I’m a bit surprised at Lopata being allowed to leave. Pines must be ready to slot straight in but leaves us a bit light in case of injuries in my opinion.

Left back will be Earl I’m guessing, although I think I’d prefer to see him at left centre back myself.

Not seen anything confirmed yet but apparently Jalo has quite a bad injury so I guess an impact striker off the bench would be wise. Could be Ennis.

Midfielder I think it will be someone to “layer” for next season rather than someone to come straight into the side (Byers).

    Sky Sports just now:

Sunderland are hoping to sign Barnsley midfielder Callum Styles today.
The deal on the table is a loan plus an option to buy the Hungary international in the summer.
Barnsley have allowed him to leave at the player’s request.

In fairness the lad from Fleetwood has been playing centre back & with Pines that makes two central defenders in & one out if Lopata moving on would mean we have actually strengthened central defence , we will see how it pans out.

You’re right. Although I’d argue that we were already a centre back down from the Summer given Williams has been playing there.

I’d be playing Earl as the left centre back, if he does sign. Slightly shocked about Lopata as I’d expect Shepherd to go out before him. Lopata would be my cover for the central position whereas Shepherd is the left side, where we are seemingly bringing a player in.

I hope we do bring Byers in, he is a class act on his day and would be a quality signing to cover Kane and Connell in Midfield rather than having to play the slug!
I can see why they would send Lopata out on loan, he lacks the pace to get back when we are caught out, he is still relatively inexperienced and gets caught out of position.
Those two and a striker who can come off the bench and make a difference should be good enough for us to challenge for at least a play off spot.

I agree with you about Lopata as he struggles for pace but to be honest any one of Shepherd , Lopata or DeGinche could go on loan for me , if Cadden plays at left wing back we could play McCart , Pines & the lad from Fleetwood in the back 3 leaving Williams to play wing back or cover for the central three but that is down to Mr Collins who knows a lot more about it than I ever will

Interesting one with Niall Ennis. It was either him or Aaron Collins here for Wanderers and in the end we’ve gone for a permanent with Collins because Blackburn insisted on a loan to the end of the season then a guaranteed £500k permanent deal? Presumably they be looking for the same with you which may affect how things go? I think you’d be crazy to let Cole go personally, though if he is going today it would certainly help us on Saturday!!

    O’Kane:
I understand Barnsley are now very close to announcing their first signing of deadline.

Am aware of reports linking Jack Shepherd with Cheltenham. Some truth nothing confirmed this end. Collins said National League for him this morning but L1 option has emerged.

I might be wrong but I am 99% sure that Cole will be lining up against Bolton on saturday , minds you we are talking about Barnsley here & they would sell the tea lady if McDonalds come in with a bid !!
