    Now you're talking!
And it would help if he could play football.

Remember Fojut? He was a centre half but a midfield version of him would go down well.

It's a hard one to nail. But.......... after the success we had playing 5 at the back in front of Benji it was always going to be difficult.
The trio of Edwards, Graham and Mulrgew, with 2 full/wing backs seemed to be keeping the back door shut. Leaving Graham out , and playing Charlie in midfield was never gonna work.

No surprise, we play the trio again, where they should be , with two fullbacks wider, and the goals against reduce massively.

Can't be a coincidence can it???

I think Foxy being involved before has "listened" to the players and went back to what worked.

Does still smell a wee bit oh player power tho.... but... hopefully nae mair 7's and 9's

The formation Ross played exposed far too many players. IMO the midfield looked the same at the end of last season with Butcher out and Fuchs gone. Average teams stretching our midfield wide open with Levitt scrambling about on his own back there. We had the 3 centre backs to cover it though. Graham is forever making last ditch blocks or tackles and covers the lack of pace from the other two at times. We are also alot happier to accept crosses into our box with the 3 in there which we dd all last season. Its fairly simple to look at and work out IMO.

Are folk honestly saying the players dictated the formation to Fox? A blind man could see we needed to go back to what worked, 3 at at the back. Fox would've seen this from last season having been a part of it without having any big time charlie (or Tony) telling him what to do.

This next appointment is starting to give me the absolute fear. 😩 I genuinely don't think Fox has what it takes. He'll maybe steady the ship initially, but after that, who knows. This is such an important appointment. Appointing a rookie who quit his only managerial post after 7 months is surely one of the biggest gambles in our clubs history if it happens?
I think the Club would be making a massive mistake to confirm Fox as our new permanent coach. It's logical that the ship needs steadied and Fox might be the right guy to do that, but we should be making him Head Coach in caretaker capacity only and review that when the World Cup break arrives.

Tbh I'm not seeing any clamour for Fox permanently whatsoever so if we went down the road of appointing him permanently what happens if we lose the next few games? Sack another coach? Jeez.

I'm really worried about the relationship between Mark Ogren and Tony Asghar, and worried that Asghar has been given complete freedom on recruitment.

That's not having a pop at Asghar by the way, but we need to remember he had no experience of running a football club, selecting players and coaches before turning up at Tannadice and spending Mark Ogrens money.

Agree. Butcher was very limited as a footballer but was never bullied. He and Fuchs were never replaced. I said at the time we needed a player "like" Gogic, not necessarily him but a similar hard type. Now we have nobody. All our academy players are lighter weight footballers and our new recruits don't fill the gap either.

Despite some successes I would still say our recruitment in recent years has been very poor, especially given the budget available. It's fine bringing McGrath and Middleton but the midfield has no foundation, the Central defence has no cover and we've added an African hopeful to step in when Fletcher gets injured, which he will at some point.

This is the problem we've got ourselves into.
And I'm not pretending to have the answers.
But....if we continue to lose badly under Fox we've at least given ourselves the chance to say it didn't work and appoint someone new.

If we go down the route of appointing someone new and we still keep losing it's even worse.

But as far as I can tell we've become toxic as far as decent experienced managers are concerned.

Kevin Thompson, you have to be kidding me.

I know nothing about the dressing room but I will say this. Based on minutes on the pitch I would like to see Charlie Mulgrew leave the club at the end of this season.
