Foakes should never have been dropped. Bairstow has cost us significantly more runs than he’s added through sone very average keeping at times.
If they wanted to shoe horn Baurstow in, then he should have replaced Pope who will never ever be a number 3.

As to the bowling. If Jimmy’s fit then he could take Robinson’s place. But I’d prefer Tongue.

But I can see us lining up with Jimmy and Bairstow.

Interesting stat I saw the other day. England have won 43 of the last 47 where wood and Woakes both played. And drew the other 4……

Yet neither were in the selectors thoughts for the first two tests…..

I think Wood would have been but not considered fit enough, also has Woakes not been coming back from injury. Woakes has an incredible average of about 22 in home Tests.
It will be good to be able to watch Foakes keep wicket against Notts in the County Championship against Surrey over the next three days. He has already held their batting together in the first innings, element of his game that goes under the imposter radar.

If Jimmy and Bairstow are selected then it will smack of the old pals act. We should pick on form in a game of such significance.

And, just like that, Bairstow keeps his place!

Now will Australia do the very same with Warner, or drop him for scoring so few with the bat this series?

I think they would if they had a proven replacement and, in our case, we certainly do.

Foakes has taken a superb stumping this morning to get rid of Will Young. His keeping is a thing of beauty to watch, and on current form would match Bairstow for runs, if not better him. Jobs for the boys, or loyalty you decide.

Shocking decision but I just hope Bairstow proves us wrong.
